The sport industry is one of the largest industries in the United States, meaning it brings in the most revenue. But, aren’t the players actually the ones bringing the money in? The spectators are paying a big amount of money for their tickets and not to mention paying even more on foods, drinks and sporting attire. Since athletes are bringing in almost $11 billion a year, it is only fair to pay them. Being a part of such a large industry, people expect athletes to perform as professional athletes do. High expectations mean athletes have to be committed and willing to put in the long time consuming hours and hard work. This is an all day everyday commitment that leaves you with no free time or anytime at all to go out and get a job so that you can support yourself. People say it is only fair that college athletes get paid so that they can make a living and support their self.
Although there are a sufficient amount of reasons why college athletes should be paid there are better reasons why college athletes should not be paid. Surveys show that many people feel the same exact way. College athletes put in a lot of hard work but that is what they signed up for. They will soon be graduating college with a good degree, debt free, and maybe even being able to progress to the next level in athletics. College athletes are already being paid in ways that many people don’t see. Therefore, college athletes should not be

There have been ongoing arguments over the past decade of whether or not college athletes should be paid to play. Many argue that they do not have time to get real jobs because the requirements for the sport that they participate in are far too demanding. Others cite that these athletes are provided full scholarships to attend the schools at which they are playing the sport. However regardless of the argument, I still feel that college athletes should not be paid to play.…

"Should College Athletes Get Paid To Play" Forget about the game-winning touchdown, forget about the cheerleader girlfriend, and forget the pageantry. What about the hard earned money college athletes will never see and earned? In the world of college sports its win or go home, and to the winners go the spoils. Most successful college sports teams rake in millions of dollars in revenue. Steve Spurrier, the coach for the Florida Gators signed a six year contract where he would make a little over 2.5 million dollars a year not including certain benefits like a free car for his wife. So with the institutions and coaches getting rich off their player who is to say that the player does not deserve a share of the wealth? Most college athletes get around 200-250 dollars a month for living expenses and spending money, this is very small compared to the student who has time to work. Some people say that athletes get paid by having a scholarship but if you look at the ulterior motive behind scholarships I think people would change their minds. Coaches try to get players who they think have the talent to make them win and to persuade them to come to their school they try to give them scholarships. So the whole idea behind a scholarship is to lure the student to come to your school. Scholarships are just a recruitment tactic. Don't confuse what I am saying though I don't think college players should be making millions of dollars but there should be a set salary for all players no matter if they make the highlights everyday or ride the pine. The players should make at least what a person who works making eight dollars and hour would make in a year, and that is a modest salary too. Every player of a college sport puts in countless man-hours of work to their sport instead of going out and getting a job they have to devote all their time to this. A huge debate is should players have the right to their likenesses? If you go to a bookstore…

College players need to get paid for what they do. When college players do not get paid, they do not get paid for the great things that they do on national TV. College players make more money for school playing their sport than people's salaries. Did you know that just if you make it to the NCAA BCS game, you get at least six million dollars. That's not even if you win. Sure student athletes get free things like free tuition, board, room fees, and food, but paying players would give them money for things like laundry, late night snacks, food for restaurants when on the road, and just different things. The three reasons why student athletes should get paid is because playing a college sport is like having a job, college players make money for…

I strongly believe that college athletes shouldn’t be paid because they're still amateurs at the sport. They aren’t professionals at the sport. Even though their in college they are still learning and they need to pass school then start getting a job to make money. If you compare college amateurs to professionals there will be a big difference and observe why they get paid it will make a lot of sense. According to the text it says “A gentleman never competes for money,” Walter Camp wrote in his 1893 handbook on college sports.”…

College athletes deserve to be paid due to a number of reasons. To begin with, the athletes happen to be the ones responsible for the huge sums of revenue that universities receive from the college athletic competitions (Jonathan, p. 1). The rise in popularity of sports in the American society, coupled with its high profit margin for the colleges due to commercialization has led to creation of much revenue for the universities. It is however very unfortunate that the student-athletes responsible for this, end up without even a penny of the revenue that they helped bring forth. There have also been contracts worth billions of dollars being signed between the universities and various broadcasting stations but the colleges still end up not paying the students. This can be better described as capitalism due to its lop-sided nature where the student-athletes do their best to aid in revenue creation for their universities but get nothing out of it.…

To pay or not to pay, that is the question that colleges are facing. College athletes are at college for an education, which is being lost fully paid for, therefore they should not be paid a salary on top of it. Problems arise when colleges discuss paying athletes. Cam Kirk Eng Daste kjnkjgjhgj “There are approximately 176,000” (NCAA) student athletes currently playing sports in college. If you ask people whether College athletes should be paid, most would say yes, but most people don’t realize the factors that go into that decision. With that being said college athletes should not be paid because they receive more benefits than other people on campus by receiving free things like education, clothing/accessories, and the cost for the staff and for transportation. Not only that, but they also have to pay the coaches and everyone who contributes to the program. Overall there are many things that have to go into making sure programs stay up and running.…

Being a college athlete is a stressful and tiring job to maintain. Student athletes’ schedules are filled with sports and school work , with little to no time for anything else. They barely have any time to make money legally outside of school. Most college athletes do not have any money to spend on things such as late night snacks, movies or other inexpensive things and entertainment. Really the only student athletes that have additional money to spend are the ones whose parents are wealthy and could provide them with money to spend, however most kids are not that fortunate, which is why colleges should pay their student athletes.
