Atticus Finch Monologue
Looks like that old Maycomb prophet came true this year. Autumn turned to winter, and my house turned to ashes. It doesn’t bother me though, seeing as I do spend most of my time outdoors with my plants. In all honesty I was more worried about my plants than I was for myself when I woke up from the hellish flames. I knew my house was goner when I saw that the old Maycomb firetruck was taken out by the cold. When the men around me started to try and save my furniture I was thankful, but even more thankful when Atticus Finch came out with my old oak rockin’ chair I love so much. That man is a kind man and for that he has always, and will forever be, a great fren’. As more furniture came piling out of my old home, Mr. Avery was pushing out my mattress from the top window. …show more content…
Townsfolk all around, including my old self, started shouting for Dick to get out of there. He tried to squeeze through the window and when he got stuck, my heart stopped beating for a few seconds. The Lord was on our side that night, for Mr. Avery got loose and jumped down from the upstairs porch. The fire was slowly consuming my old home and the fire would soon spread onto my neighbours. Smoke was surrounding the Finch and Miss. Rachel’s home but boy did I feel guilty. If their houses did get eaten by the flames I would blame my silly for the love of my plants. Luckily the firetruck from Abbotsville came rushing to the rescue and started to hose down the Finch’s home. Atticus and I were watching the scene unfold in front of our eyes. Jeremy and Jean Louise’s absolute morphodite fell to the ground in a messy heap. Another firetruck arrived and tried to hose down Miss Stephanie Crawford’s. There was no hydrant so the poor men had to do it with their own hands. Then my house gave its last stand and fell to the ground. It was around dawn when everyone started to depart. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the gaping black hole in my

Every day I try to instil good values and a sense of moral propriety in my children. I make it my duty to aide them towards making righteous decisions and treating others as they wish to be treated. I know they torment Arthur Radley on their way to school; I’m sure now they realize they were wrong in doing so. I do not believe Arthur Radley is simple-minded; he is the way he is because of people like his father, people like Bob Ewell. He is only seeking love and attention by befriending Scout and Jem, I think that will do them some good after everything they’ve been through, and they deserve each other. I’m glad they’re friends now, I can only teach them so much and eventually they’ll get tired of listening to me and will need someone else to gain advice from, I just hope that day doesn’t come soon.…

Around the time I was expecting, the dusty cars pulled up and out came a group of men with determined looks and fire in their eyes. I folded my evening paper, took a calming breath, and readied myself to greet the men with lynching on their minds. “He in there Mr. Finch?” the leader of the group silently demanded. Ever since Tom Robinson was put in jail, I had thought about how…

The crunch of the leaves was therapeutic to me as I walk down the lonely path of the forest. All was quiet until I heard what sounded to be an almost-thirteen-year-old boy scream “Run, Scout! Run! Run!,” I knew I had to act fast. The pulsing of my head has never been louder as I ran down the trail to see the source of the scream the only thing I could think about was what I was going to see or do when I get to the scene.…

Kind and understanding, strict but fair, Atticus Finch embodies everything that a father should be, evidence of this is in Scouts description of her and her brother views of their father,“Jem and I found our father satisfactory: he played with us, read to us and treated us with courteous detachment.” showing he does what a father is obliged to do but treats them as he would treat anyone else and that they are on the same level as him. A man of great strength and courage, he is Scout and Jem's hero; the steady presence that keeps them grounded and their only connection to the adult world. He is their teacher, their protector, and their friend. He takes on these responsibilities without hesitation, and cares far Scout and Jem the only way he knows how. Some say it's a misguided effort at parenthood, but Atticus' treatment of his children are what make him an exemplary father.…

The wind was harsh in Maycomb that night, the moon a meer pearl in a black sky. I sat in the chair in my study, cringing from the moonlight emanating from the large window, as if it, too, would burn my skin. I tapped my pen, thinking about the Finch children. Why was I so intrigued with them, with who they were? Maybe it was because I felt as if they were like me. Their father, being so brave as to defy the societal norms, must have raised them like him; to respect all people, no matter the color of their skin. They were so young, so innocent, and I did not wish to see them harmed or looked down upon. They looked up to me, that I knew; why, I didn’t. I did not want them to end up like me; a coward that hid from what he was afraid of. I wanted them to do something about it. I was hopeful that they would.…
