Jem Finch Monologue
The crunch of the leaves was therapeutic to me as I walk down the lonely path of the forest. All was quiet until I heard what sounded to be an almost-thirteen-year-old boy scream “Run, Scout! Run! Run!,” I knew I had to act fast. The pulsing of my head has never been louder as I ran down the trail to see the source of the scream the only thing I could think about was what I was going to see or do when I get to the scene. It was blur.. the adrenaline in me made me run faster than I ever did in my everlasting life. When I heard the screams get louder I slowed down a bit to see what I was going to have to deal with. As soon as I did I saw jem trying to fight off Bob Ewell! And scout was on the ground looking confused and dazed in her little ham …show more content…
I looked around, Jem was unconscious on top of a hay pile and scout was still in her ham with her puzzled face trying to process what's happening. I walked toward jem and picked him up from the body shaped hay pile and proceeded to walk toward the Finch's house. My mind couldn't process on what I have done and I don't want to think of the consequences. The walk to the Finches house was a short walk but it felt long with the slientness of the night. As I walked into the finches house, Atticus was relieved but also extremely concerned (think of another way to say concerned) he motioned me to Jem's room. I sat him down and my awkward self stood in the corner waiting for the other child to come. A few minutes passed by then she came Scout Finch, but there was someone on behind her Mr. Tate he was asking scout questions about the event that just happened. (i think it's his name) Mr.Tate asked scout “Well, who was it?” scout looked around thinking then her little young eyes looked up at me “Why there he is Mr. Tate he can tell you his name” scout looked as if she was trying to figure who I was. Then her eyes lit up with my name on her lips.( I'm making him sound like a pedo) After an awhile we all ended up outside on the finches porch, I was sitting on the little swing thingy with scout. Mr. Tate and Mr. Finch were talking about the deed I have done, at first Atticus pls don't roast my crusty

During her exploration through thoughts, she takes Boo's perspective on life, seeing all of Maycomb as her family and finally realizing why he has never left his house. (R) In fact, I'm slightly surprised; how could it be that a girl is interested in things that aren't feminine? How dare her! Doesn't she understand that women have no say in the things they do? Why of course, our only purpose is to cook and to clean, right?…

Outside, the greens and browns run past me like dogs chasing cats as the tracks flew by like little birds. The train nosily rattles underneath my seat, rumbling along with the rocks. I am on train from Maycomb County back to Meridian, Mississippi. This summer’s been good to me in Maycomb. When I first arrived in Maycomb, it was a disappointment, all I found was boredom. Although, I changed my mind the day I met a funny-named boy who had soft brown hair and his sister, who lived in breeches. They were called, Jem and Scout from the loving Finch Family. The Finches consist of the couple, Atticus and his dead wife, their children, Jem and Scout along with Calpurnia who works for them.…

Looks like that old Maycomb prophet came true this year. Autumn turned to winter, and my house turned to ashes. It doesn’t bother me though, seeing as I do spend most of my time outdoors with my plants. In all honesty I was more worried about my plants than I was for myself when I woke up from the hellish flames. I knew my house was goner when I saw that the old Maycomb firetruck was taken out by the cold.…

Because the narration is not as straightforward in the film, the film seems to shift more to Jem's experiences. For example, Jem finds all the articles in the tree. Jem accompanies Atticus to tell Helen Robinson of her husband's death. Jem is left alone to watch his sister. Scout is still an important character, but the film expands on her brother's role.…

Aunt Alexandra tells Jem and Scout they have to act like Finches. Initially, Atticus agrees with her, but says differently while he puts his children to bed, that “I don’t want you to remember it. Forget it.” (178). Atticus doesn’t want himself or his kids to act like the rest of their family. He likes everyone to think for themselves and be their own person. Again, Atticus is genuine when Heck is telling Atticus that Jem did not kill Bob Ewell, but in his shock, Atticus doesn’t believe him and thinks Tate is trying to cover up what Jem did. Atticus tells Mr. Tate that, “I don’t live that way.” (365). Atticus is an honest person, and he always tries to be honest and outright. He doesn’t act different around certain people or in certain social settings. As the Finches’ neighbor Miss Maudie Atkinson says, “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets.” (61).…

A lot has happened since the day that I stood on Boo Radley’s porch and looked out into the street. I had finally been able to see the world from his perspective. It was on that day that I truly learned that a person cannot be understood until I stood in their shoes and walked around in them. From that day forward, I vowed that I would one day teach my children the wise words that Atticus Finch had taught me when I was a child. Seventeen years have passed since that day.…

In the literary classic To Kill a Mockingbird, moral development is very clearly seen in the character of Jem Finch. Over the course of the two-year narrative, his ideas of right and wrong change and grow drastically. He becomes unafraid of voicing his opinion and breaking social rules, exemplified through his bold opinions and hope regarding the Robinson case, as well as grows tremendously in his definition of bravery and how it should be expressed. As he matures, Jem Finch’s ideas about bravery and social rules grow and change as he encounters new experiences with the residents of Maycomb, experiences that shape his morality into that of a young adult.…

Scout (shakes her head laughing in delight), oh silly, innocent Scout; always into mischief and abiding against the social rules expected of a young white woman. It’s funny how things have developed over these last twenty years (she places the portrait back down before walking to the oven to check on the crackling bread). I, once a simple black cook and maid, am now a law clerk with the hopes of one day being a lawyer like Atticus. Helen, once heartbroken and lonesome, found another loving husband who are now both happily retired in Maycomb, God bless them.…

The chapter opens with the introduction of the narrator, Scout (Jean Louise) Finch, her older brother Jem (Jeremy), and their friend and neighbor, Dill (Charles Baker Harris). Next, Lee provides an overview of Finch family history. Their ancestor, a Methodist named Simon Finch, fled British persecution and eventually settled in Alabama, where he trapped animals for fur and practiced medicine. Having bought several slaves, he established a largely self-sufficient homestead and farm, Finch's Landing, near Saint Stephens. The family lost its wealth in the Civil War. Scout's father, Atticus Finch, studied law in Montgomery while supporting his brother, John "Jack" Hale Finch, who was in medical school in Boston. Their sister Alexandra remained at Finch's Landing. Atticus began his law practice in Maycomb, the county seat of Maycomb County, where his "office in the courthouse contained little more than a hat rack, a spittoon, a checkerboard, and an unsullied Code of Alabama." His first case entailed defending two men who refused to plead guilty for second-degree murder. They instead pled not guilty for first-degree murder, and were hanged, marking "probably the beginning of my father's profound distaste for criminal law." Scout then describes Depression-era Maycomb, "an old tired town when I first knew it", summer heat and slow pace of life. She notes, "There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County". Scout describes as her father as entirely "satisfactory," and her family's black cook, Calpurnia, as strict and "tyrannical." Scout and Jem's mother died of a heart attack when Scout was two and she has no memories of her. However, Jem can remember his mother and Scout notices that he is occasionally nostalgic about her. The novel takes begins during the summer. Scout is almost six, and Jem is almost ten. Once this background picture is complete, the real…
