Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird is a person who will stand up for and to anybody. He is a lawyer who stood up for a black man in the time where there was a lot of segregation. The black man’s name was Tom Robinson. He was said that he had raped a white woman, when the truth was that he had nothing to do with it, he was guilty. Her name was Mayella Ewell. She said that he had raped her, and beat her. The
father of Mayella Ewell is, Bob Ewell. Mayella said she had planned everything. Atticus believed that Tom Robinson didn't harm Mayella in any way. And believe that the father did. Point is, nobody would believe Tom Robinson would win the case because he was black, but Atticus did. Atticus took the case to prove to people black people are like Mockingbirds they mean no harm to anybody. Atticus had all the right evidence and the courage to stand up for a black man. But he didn't win, later in the story Bob Ewell is trying to hurt Atticus and his family for what Atticus has done. And that was because Atticus knew Tom Robinson wasn't guilty. He stood up for a male who had no chance of winning but he did it because he knew it was the right thing to do.
Another example is the mother of Emitt Till, Mamie Till. She stood up for her 14 year old son who murdered for no reason. This also took place in a time where segregation was a big part in history. He went to go visit a family member in Money, Mississippi along with his cousin. He went to a store only for black people, and a white lady who was running the store said Emitt Till whistled at her in his way out. She told her husband and later in the week he was kidnapped and murdered by her husband and brother-in-law. When Marie saw Emitt’s body, she fainted. They asked her if they would have a closed casket funeral she said “no I want everyone to see what they have done to my son”. And everybody did. She stood up and took everything to a higher level. She wanted to keep on taking this case to a much higher level, but no judge or court would allow it. She wrote letters, and made calls. But it never happened. She fought for her sons rights. And it triggered The Civil Rights Movement. She stood up, to the fact that the whole world knew what had happened in Money Mississippi. She wasn't the only one who stood up for this, it was also two witnesses who claimed to hear him with two grown white men. They later on moved out of Mississippi so they won't be killed by white men. She stood up for her son and all black peoples rights.
All in all, standing up for what you believe in will make a difference in people who truly need it. Your voice will be heard, just stand up for what you think is wrong and just make it right.
