Attitudes And Morals In Sophocles Antigone
“Stand up for what you believe in even if it means standing alone”- Andy Biersack Antigone is a Greek tragedy written by Sophocles in this play I found that my attitude and morals are quite similar to the protagonist Antigone. In the story Antigone has been told that if she buries her brother, who died fighting against the city Antigone lives, she would be put to death."Polynices, I say is to have no burial; no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him" 1.55-58. However, she defies the law and buries him anyways, because she knows that the law of God surpasses that of man. That is one way we are similar along with our morals and bravery
Antigone knows the law of God greatly surpass that of man which is to say she knows that she must
bury her brother against the wishes of the king. “ It was not God’s proclamation, that final justice. That rules the world below makes no such laws” (2.58-59)Our heroine knows that Creon’s power pales in comparison to the power of God. That is why she follows God’s statutes
I have learned throughout my short life that that those who follow God’s law have always had a better life although like this heroine that is not the only, or primary, reason for my capitulation. The predominant reason for this compliance is faith. Faith in the fact that if one follows these simple rules, or in my opinion single rule, the result will be phenomenal. I have been exceedingly blessed in my life for doing what I know in my heart is right.
This hero’s bravery is second to none she show that in every part of the play. Even with death hanging over she hardly bats an eye she stands rock solid in her morals
