When Auschwitz was built from the end most everyone who was sent there died, “over 50% of all registered prisoners died as a result of starvation, labor the exceeded their physical capacity, the terror that raged in the camp, executions, the inhuman living conditions, disease and epidemics, punishment, torture, and criminal medical experiments” (I survived staff). This is many of the things that happened at Auschwitz and why it was the most deadly concentration camps. Another was prisoners were killed was because of Josef Mengele who conducted what he called “medical practice,” what really happened was he would find prisoners, usually twins, and inject them will different things. An example of his medical practice is when he took twins and injected them both with Chloroform, in the heart, and watched how their bodies would react and once one twin died he would immediately kill off the other one because he had no use for them. Gassing of prisoners is what everyone knows about but before prisoners entered the chambers there were greeted with a sign that the SS put and it read, this is a gateway to god and that only righteous men will pass through, above the door there was also a Star of David to mock the Jewish. By this time the Soviet Union was approaching and the SS was in a panic so they were trying to destroy all evidenced of any killings. The first thing the camp decided to do was kill everyone they put into the Gypsies ward which was hold a little below 3,000 people, buy the end they would have killed nearly 20,000 Gypsies prisoners. In a final attempt to destroy everything all gas chambers were destroyed. This was the final thing the camp did before total a banding Auschwitz. On January 18, 1945 everyone suitable to walk did and the ones not were left behind to die. But while walking if someone was falling behind or was too weak they were shot and left behind this all lasted until January 27 until everyone was far away from Auschwitz. On the same day Auschwitz was discovered by soviet troops and all the remaining alive at Auschwitz was immediately sent to help because they were on the verge of starvation. By the end of Auschwitz the camp had succeeded to kill an estimated one million Jews, and it didn’t stop there, 110,000 of the other prisoners were killed.
