Thank You Arizona Diamondbacks
5th Grade
The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning." – Mitch Albom
Last year the Arizona Diamondbacks awarded our school with Diamondback tickets for the game on May 25th, 2012. I was able to attend the game with my parents and my little sister. It was the first professional sports game I have ever been to. It was a great experience for me to know more about the Diamondbacks and baseball. I had a lot of fun and it was a great memory I share with my family today. Thank you Diamondbacks for giving the students of Nikolaus Homestead Elementary such an amazing and meaningful opportunity!
I think I deserve the Diamondback tickets because I have worked very hard this year in every subject of school and reached all of my reading goals. I am able to balance my extracurricular activities along with sports, schoolwork and chores. I volunteer in the cafeteria and P.E. room during lunch and recess. I like to cook so when I saw that the Diamondbacks even participated in taste testing gourmet hot dogs for their signature dog, I became interested even more.
I’d love to learn more about baseball, especially the Diamondbacks in general. I do know that the first official Diamondbacks game was at home at the previously named Bank One Ballpark on March 31, 1998. Jay Bell was the first Diamondbacks player to officially be a Diamondback. The first D-Backs homerun was made by Travis Lee on March 31, 1998. Miguel Bautista was the first active MLB player to publish a novel and he kept a picture of Albert Einstein in his locker. Mr. Bautista also would not talk about baseball because he thought there were more important matters to talk about.
It was the generosity of the Arizona Diamondbacks that made me a fan of this team and all of its members. You have once already given

Since I was 7 years old, I have always participated in Greenwich’s very own Cardinal Baseball Camp. However, until last summer, I had always been one of the campers. This year I was an official volunteer of the camp. Everyday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m., me and approximately 30 other staff members at the camp would teach young kids how to play baseball. This camp is run very locally, and it is very personalized, something that should truly be valued in a large town like Greenwich. Although not perfect, this is the best camp in town, and it will continue to stay that way as it continues to improve itself. The Greenwich Cardinal Baseball Camp is a very effective place for kids to go and not only learn the game of baseball, but meet new friends,…

When I was in eighth grade one of my childhood dreams came true. I made the little league all-star team for the first time in my life. As I sat with the rest of the kids at the closing ceremonies of the regular season, I was not at all expecting my name to be called when the names of the select few players who made the all-star team were being announced. When they did call my name, I hesitated at first not knowing what to do. I was overcome by the awe of making the team. One of my friends told me to go up to the trophy stand where the coach of the all-star team was standing and accept my jersey, so I did. It took a while for it to really sink in that I had made the team, but when it did I was extremely delighted.…

Let me start of by being completely honest and saying that I thought your book was going to be boring and terrible. Many political books are written in a formal language that often intimidates the reader, making them feel unintelligent as well. Not only that, many authors of political books have a tendency to scold the readers for thinking a certain way. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I began to read your book. The first thing I noticed is that the language you use is simple, but not such that it seems like an elementary book. It’s written in a way a person not involved with politics can understand. I was also happy to see that this book is not about your beliefs on controversial issues such as health care or abortion, but about the game of politics, something that we all can relate to.…

I will always remember the kids that were playing there and I think that some of those kids would go to the mlb. So me and my dad finally arrived at the ballparks and I then rolled my bag over to where my team was staying. I then slowly walked over to my team and began to greet them. My coach looked really familiar and he was bald and wearing these shaded glasses. I also remember one of the kids named Derek who went and tossed with me in the grass on one the fields we were by and every time he went up to bat he would use a wooden bat and he hit very well in each game. We then played 2 games, one against white and one against gray. It was very funny playing the white team because Johnny, Logan, and Nick were all on that team (they used to be on the same team). Anyway, my team did well and we won against white team but lost to the gray team. I was ⅗ as an average in each game. So now on to the exciting part. The very next day, there were these challenges that everybody did called Golden Arm, Base Running, and the Homerun Derby. I decided to do the Golden Arm and the Base Running. In the base running, I didn’t do so well (the guy in first was a minute faster than me), but in the Golden Arm, that is a different story. So basically you had to stand in front of the mound and…

Going to a game in Fenway is a smorgasbord of delightful feelings. Even the walk up to the ballpark is some thing to behold. Walking with hundreds of passionate fans, all decked out in their red sox T-shirts, jerseys, and of coarse that iconic navy hat with the red B on it. I feel like I belong there with this organized group of strangers. There is such a since of family as I see people from the “T” car I was on and chatted with. A few hundred yards ahead I could hear a “Lets Go Red Sox” chant as people around me began to join in it became more enticing to do so myself. After all this was my team, our team, and this was our year! That was the constant attitude of a Sox fan. Just as the team would look like they were primed to make a push for the World Series they would lose in heartbreaking fashion and mostly to the hands of the damn Yankees.…

I remember that day when I came to Berkner presents Berkner and saw the booth for Impact Club, and even though I had left my name on a sign-up sheet, I still had no idea what the club had been about. I kept this club in my mind and was actually shocked, when I finally fit into it. What I had always enjoyed about the cub was the fact that there were always oppourtunities to help out the community , but we had to take the initive and seize them. From the beginning I loved this club, and well now, I might have the chance to make others feel the same way. (I still would either way.)…
