Basketball History Essay

Basketball is a fun and unique sport to learn and play. Basketball has brung hope and dreams to many young kids and families. Even learning the sport has brung happiness to many people. For these reasons, being inspired by great basketball players, learning the history behind this marvelous sport, and the NBA. Basketball is sport with many great things. Basketball history Basketball has evolved over the many years it has been played. Basketball first started in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. Dr. James got this fantastic idea while thinking of a game that would keep his men at the YMCA occupied. At first, the game was made up of a peach basket and a soccer shaped ball. Dr. James also has made some of the rules of the game. Though they aren't quite the same rules we have today. For example, his version of the rules stated that you couldn't run or dribble with the ball, but have to shoot it or pass the ball where you had first caught the ball. Another thing that was different back then was the baskets. Rather than having the nets open at the bottom so the ball could just drop
George Mikan is a great example. George Mikan was one of the world's first great basketball players. He was great at rebounding (getting the ball back after opponent shoots) shot blocking, and most of of all his ambidextrous hook shots. Michael Jordan too is a great player, he is a great shooting guard, is known for his awesome slam dunks, and not only that but he is an awesome teammate. Kobe Bryant, an awesome small forward, also one of the highest scores in the league. Kareem Abdul Jabbar plays great center, known for his height, and also has a magnificent hook shot.
