Unlike most teenage girls who love Romantic movies like Twilight and music by One Direction, I prefer watching movies that have connotative meanings (e.g. Shutter Island) and gaming is an essential condition for me to live. Some people call me a tomboy, but I hate this title with no reason. People who don’t know me well won’t even believe my personality and interests are like that. A bit similar to Bruce Wayne, he also hides his secrets behind his wealthy industrialist identity. The first time I was interested in The Dark Knight series was when the boredom of summer holiday annoyed me so much, I had to watch something to get me awake. It just so happens that The Dark Knight Rises was coming out and I thought …show more content…
it would be better if I had watched the previous installments, so I did indeed.
Everything is more than a superhero movie franchise, it’s about the humanity and realism with a dark tone inside. It engages me in the very moment when Bruce grows his fear in bats after he accidently fell in a well, and this changes his life forever. His father told him they only attacked Bruce because they were frightened of the sound of his fall. However, his father’s words didn’t work. On the night of the opera Mephistopheles Bruce almost burst into tears when the bat-like creatures came out, He then asked to take some fresh air. Ironically, His parents were murdered by an armed mugger. Bruce blamed the corruption deeply and the death of his parents traumatized him in lifetime.
Bruce wasn’t a thoughtful person before went on a journey for nearly seven year. He even tried to kill his parents’ murder that was being suspended in exchange for testifying against a mod boss. Rachael Dawes finally gives Bruce what he needs most, someone to guide him towards the road of becoming a savior. She gives him a lecture of the difference between justice and revenge. This is the most important step of every hero, to understand their purpose. He then abandoned his life at Gotham as he headed to the Eat: China.
To fight against the corrupt he had experienced and saw in Gotham, he decided to start a one-man war against the corrupt system. However he did not have the physical strength to fight crimes in person or to conquer his fear towards bats. An enigmatic man who introduces as Ducard invites Bruce to join an elite vigilant group, The League of Shadows. Bruce overcame his fear and mastered combat skills during their training. Ducard told their true plan: to destroy Gotham and rebuild it by the lead of Bruce himself. Even though Gotham is gravely corrupted he would still do anything to save it, not to demolish it. So he refused and escaped by setting the headquarters to fire, killing the leader Ra’s al Ghul in process, but spared Ducard’s life. I admire how Bruce fought for Gotham so many times with no return at all; this is one big reason why I see him as a hero. Unalike to some people, who do good things for a city, they want everyone, everyone on Earth to know what they did, but not him, not Bruce Wayne. He hides himself in his ‘costume’, under his bat mask and black cape from his friends, even the closest ones.
Bruce is not a bloodthirsty beast that needs to kill; he had ‘sympathy’ for most people: he never kills people, he said in one sense ‘I won't kill you...
but I don't have to save you’ and ties the criminal up for the police to handle the rest. Even when the villains must be eradicated, he leaves them to die alone, not on his hands. Most people who experienced the same as Bruce could have become a psychopath, a serial killer or other harmful criminals to share their fear, but he is different. Bruce took his fear as a weapon and became a hero of Gotham, ‘Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread,’ he stated clearly why he created Batman.
The compassionate heart of Bruce towards Ducard had done no good to Gotham. Ducard reveals his true identity: the real Ra’s al Ghul. As the main character of this story, Batman eventually defeats Ra and finally been confirmed as a public hero. Bruce Wayne once said he will remain undercover until Gotham no longer needs a Batman. My question is ‘How would that be possible?’ The corruption will never remain zero; they repeat themselves over and over until Gotham burns into ashes by the chaos. Some people like the psychotic Joker would be pleased to see that happen in front of their
eyes.
I personally think Joker is better than Batman, only in his character settings, not what he did to Gotham City. His original identity is unknown by the Gotham City Police Department. From his choice of weaponry which are a variety of firearm, like bombs, guns and knives. There are three possible identities: An escaped patient from Arkham Asylum, a former employee of the Haley Broths Circus (they have a connection with the mob), or a former soldier that suffers from acute PTSD. If he was a former soldier that served in the military, it would explain his familiarity with weapons, as well as his devastating effectiveness in various forms of combat.
The scar on Joker’s face is extremely eye-catching, especially when his face paint has covered his face. Those black rims beside his eyes makes his white face a lot paler and his ‘stretched’ mouth a lot ‘happier’. Unlike the 1989 Joker, his face was not disfigured by chemicals, he dyed his hair green and is willing to show his scar to people (this is the opposite of what the old Joker did). Joker tells different stories about his scar; it’s either an historical anecdote, or merely a tall tale: His first story is he was cheering up his disfigured gambler wife who was cut by the loaner because she was unable to pay back. The second one is when Joker’s father was drunk and tried to abuse his mother; his father wanted Joker to be ‘happy’ and said ‘why so serious?’ before he cut Joker’s mouth. One is initiative, one is passive, the opposite stories maybe indicating Joker’s conflicting personality.
‘Some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. ’ Alfred told how the Joker is different from most criminals to Bruce. At the same time Joker sees himself as yin and sees Batman as yang. In Jokers mind, there would be no fun at all without Batman in Gotham. What Jokers looking for is only destroying Batman, causing destruction and creating a panic as he identified himself as ’an agent of chaos’.
