Q8. In my opinion, I believe that it is fair to say that neither side had won the battles of Somme or Verdun. In other words, there was so much bloodshed and lives lost that there was no real winner. Both sides sustained major casualties and loss of supplies. The amount of death is something that we as humans can not even begin to fathom. The worst part about it, nothing was gained in the process of these battles. There was such a tremendous and horrific amount of loss that there was no possible amount of gain that could ever make up for it. There would be no winning when it came to the battle of the Somme and Verdun.
