Last week, The President of the United States, Barack Obama, announced that he supported same sex marriages. The Republican Party is trying to make a big deal out of the decision he has made. They are saying that his decision will hurt him in November because this is an election year. They are also saying he made this decision to get the votes of the gay people. The Republicans have also went as far as to say that the President was planning to make this announcement later but was forced to come out with his decision last week because Vice-President Biden announced his support for gay marriages in an interview.
The biggest thing that has offended supporters of the President is the newest cover of Newsweek Magazine. On cover of the magazine they depict President Obama with a rainbow halo and the title of ‘The First Gay President’. The news-magazine is using the shock factor of labeling this straight, married, father-of-two, President to draw attention to itself. It is very biased and stereotypical to label someone based on a belief. I do not feel it was fair for the magazine to belittle or start these negative rumors about our President. Describing the similarities between President Obama and the gay community the article stated, “He had to discover his black identity and then reconcile it with his white family, just as gays discover their homosexual identity and then have to reconcile it with their heterosexual family.” Really? The creditability of this source is not reliable. The claim is not believable. There is doubt about this source’s knowledge. This article is a genetic fallacy and should be rejected because it came from a defective source. President Obama as everyone is a human being entitled to his own opinion. There has never been as much controversy with any decision other Presidents have made. He was only stating his belief and giving the reason he made
