I believe Belk should locate its next stores in Metro Detroit. The Metro Detroit area has a population of roughly four million people and a Gross Metropolitan Product of roughly $200 billion. It is among the top 20 cities in the United States in terms of GMP. There is many other department stores in the Metro Detroit area, which will require Belk to create a strategy to differentiate themselves from others. Some of the strategies could be better customer service, higher quality products, better pricing, etc.
A Belk store in the Detroit Metro area would make a great strategic fit. I believe the Detroit Metro area has a decent demographic and lifestyle fit for Belk. According to bls.gov, households in the Detroit Metro area has
