Recently in class, I had the opportunity to view a film in which it followed what goes on inside Bellevue Hospital. Here, there were many nurses and psychologists who helped with the care and watch of the patients.
While watching the film, I noticed that a lot of the nurses and psychologists had a sense of humor behind closed doors. When they were dealing with the patients, they were serious and you could tell that they really cared about the well being of the patients. With that said, there were segments of the film where you would see the employees making jokes about the place. I know that it is a hospital and it isn’t supposed to be this extravagant and glamorous place, but I think there were some interior things that could have been changed. I think the hospital could have felt a little more like home. I think there could have been things that the patients enjoy and could have been more colors in the room. I feel as though this would help the patients deal with the fact that they are there, especially if they are there for a while. A lot of the patients talked about how they haven’t seen sunlight in days, and I think that is really sad. If it was possible, as an employee, I would try and find a way to get the patients outside for a couple of minutes a day. Even if it was only for five minutes a day, I think it would really calm the patients and allow them to clear their minds with some fresh air. A lot of people respond to colors, and, as previously mentioned, I think if there were more colors in the hospital, it would help ease the patients. I wouldn’t put any dark colors or colors that are associated with negative emotions, like the color blue for example. I would use vibrant colors that give off the feeling of positivity and happiness. I think this would be food for the patients because it would maybe help them stay positive and would keep the hospital looking fresh.
