Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741. He was raised in Norwich, Connecticut. He was a member of the militia during the French and Indian war. (1754-1763) There is a memorial to Arnold at the Saratoga National Historic Park to commemorate him for his heroism. The statue even shows Benedict Arnold’s detached leg. He lost it in battle; which means he was willing to suffer a severe wound for his country. He turned from a great hero in the American Revolution to a traitor. A reasonable question would be; why would a man betray his own country? Especially one he just fought so hardley for.

Normally that would have been good for Arnold, but he made an excuse to stay at West Point instead. Andre was sent as a spy to tell the British West Point’s location. When Andre was captured they found the note and Andre was hanged. Benedict Arnold was immediately called a traitor. Washington was probably hysterical at this point. For all of those times he stuck up for Arnold. Once Arnold got word of this he still went to the British. Arnold became a British general and fought a few battles before he died in England in 1801. However he was never given anymore power that that because the British never fully trusted him. He did everything he could for America and they never showed that they cared. Arnold saw a way out; an opportunity to show people he could be more than just a general. More than just someone's assistant on the sidelines. He also deserved to take credit for the battles that he did lead and brought back victories for. He thought this could be accomplished through the British. Arnold was looked down upon by The Green Mountain boys and other men when in reality they had nothing to be against him for. They were all fighting for the same team. That is until they pushed Arnold so far to the breaking point that he became a traitor. This proved to be a mistake for Arnold because all he ever wanted was to be appreciated and he never got higher than a general when he was with the British
