Beowulf King Qualities
Kings, They are the ones their people look up to. They entrust their safety into their hands and hope that they will be protected. The best kings are those that possess great qualities. However there are many different kinds of qualities kings can have. In the story we have two kings they both display a high quality of bravery and strength. These are the best qualities that you could ask for in a king, but one king is said to have more than the other. In the beginning, we meet our first official king, Hrothgar. Hrothgar is the king of the Danes. Over time Hrothgar had won many battles and became a famous soldier in his kingdom. Hrothgar very admired until, He fell as a king when he first met Grendel . He said to be “ the strongest of men alive in that day, mighty and noble.” This not only displaying how brave he must be, but the strength he has. With Beowulf’s bravery he “ called for a ship, said he would cross the ocean and help the king who needed help”. Not even king, yet Beowulf has already demonstrated the qualities of a king, that he soon will be. Beowulf now at the kingdom, a few days go by and Grendel appears again.This time he ¨came then striding in the night the walker of darkness¨. Beowulf's bravery comes out that night when he lies awake in bed watching Grendel as he seizes soldiers sleeping. As Grendel reaches Beowulf, ¨ Beowulf grasped his arm and sat up.¨ Grendel realizing he has just met a man with the same strength as him is fearful. With Beowulf ¨firmly grasping Grendelś hand until the fingers broke¨. As Grendel realizes his end has come ¨ the bone-locks of his shoulder gave way, and his sinews sprang out¨. ¨The glory of the battle went to Beowulf, and Grendel, mortally wounded, sought his sad home under the fen …show more content…
Only to be attacked by Grendel's mother, who seeks the avenge of her son's death. As she wanders through the hall she had awoken the knights, who were not as frightened, but still fearful. While she was there she had killed Hrothgar in his sleep, creating rage for the almighty Beowulf. As the night passed Beowulf and his soldier went to her lair. Beowulf showing his great bravery goes down into the lair kills Grendel's mother with the giants sword, with the death of both Grendel and Grendel's mother Beowulf takes Grendel's head as a trophy. Very old, he must defeat one more enemy, the dragon. Beowulf still filled with bravery armors up and goes into battle one last time. Beowulf being 70 years old goes into the fight, putting in all the strength he still possessed came out

    Beowulf’s first heroic traits were his use of strtength and courage. With his courage he was able to stand up and protect his fellow people and with his strength it helped him defate his eniemies.
