I am Maylea, and this is Bernie. We are in search for Bernie’s wife, and I believe you may know where she is.”
Maylea, so that was her name! Also I don’t remember telling her my name, but that’s a problem for a different day. “Of course I know where she is. But it’s not going to be easy finding her. I’m only the first test.” The woman, Laka, spoke powerfully. Maylea was right, my love for Anne was being tested. “I’ll do anything to get her back. What’s my first test?” I plead. “I have only one question. What is Anne’s biggest secret?” At this I pause, I know the answer, but it’s something really personal. My heart and stomach drop. Everything goes silent, except for a ringing in my ears. I’m free falling through the air getting closer and closer to the smoldering magma below. The heat gets more and more intense the more I fall, and it turns me into an ocean of sweat.
Suddenly, I’m not falling anymore. In fact, I’m floating. A lightning bolt strikes and I black out.
When I regain consciousness, I’m in my hotel room again and Anne is laying next to me.
“What happened?” she mutters.
“Let’s go home. I have quite a story for
