Natalie Monologue
The silence of the room is getting to Natalie. She turns on her portable speaker and a love song starts playing as the forward relaxes in the tub in the hotel room in Portugal. She closes her eyes and feels the tension leaving her body.
"Scoot forward." Natalie opens her eyes and scoots forward. The presence of another body is felt along hers. The familiar touch of her girlfriend's and she leans back into her favorite goalkeeper's body.
"Excited for your first CAP?" Natalie asked.
"I am. It's been over a decade when I first started with the national team in the youth level." Ashlyn said then plants soft kisses to Natalie's neck. A song comes on and Ashlyn listens to it.
"What's this song?" She asked.

She was my singing coach growing up."
"I never knew that."
"She was a trained opera singer. She met my great grandfather in Hawaii after a USO show before the US entered World War Two. A year after the war, they had my grandfather, his twin brother and their sister. My grandparents met in high school and they had my dad first then Uncle Rob then Uncle Mark and Aunt Michelle, who are twins. And you know the rest."
"Why haven't you talked about your grandfather?"
"He was murdered a week after I was born. A robbery gone wrong. He went grocery shopping for my parents." Ashlyn kisses her shoulder.
"That's why I'm an advocate for stricter gun laws. I've had family members or friends killed by guns."
"And that's why I love you. You have the biggest heart and always put everything before you."
"It's just -- I have a bad feeling about guns. Like, one of the deadliest attacks is going to happen within the next few years here in the US."
"I hope not."
Natalie sets her toothbrush into the baggie then tosses the baggie to her suitcase. She lays on her bed and looks up at the ceiling. The team is celebrating Ashlyn's first CAP, but Natalie is not with them. There's a soft and tentative knock on the door. She gets up and opens the
