As a reaction I lunged for it and I lost my balance and before I knew it, I was in the water. I cried out hoping someone would hear me and I tried to swim after the racing yacht but after I had swam about fifty feet, I began to realize there was no way I was going to catch up to it. I stopped in the water and I heard a high screaming sound, the sound of an animal in an extremity of anguish and terror. I didn’t even recognize the animal.…
The facts were that an employee left patients’ records on a subway. Information on those records was way too personal to just be taking out of the hospital. This also ties into the ethical issues as well. The employee should not of been so careless but they should not of taken those records home…
My grandmother and I were the only people over there that day, and there was no one around to help. Blood was everywhere, and I was so afraid that she was going to die. I was terrified, but I calmed down enough to call 911. I remember the operator instructed me to hold pressure on her wound, elevate her leg, and speak to her reassuringly (although, I thought that someone should be speaking to me reassuringly). I stayed with her until the ambulance came and took her to the hospital.…
Bethany Hamilton’s life is one of the most remarkable in the world. The amount of faith, love, and hope that Bethany Hamilton has is extraordinary. Bethany survived a vicious shark attack in which she lost most of her arm. If something terrible or horrific happens to someone that believes in Christ or at least knows about Him they sometimes point fingers at Him and believe that He “did this to them”. Bethany was nothing like this.…
Bethany Hamilton - 20th Century's Most Effective Citizen " Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Courage means you don't let fear stop you." -Bethany Hamilton. Bethany was born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990 in Kauai, Hawaii. Bethany began surfing at a young age and entered her first competition at the age of eight.…
Sharks may be frightening, but they’re a vital part of the ocean’s ecosystem. (p.7). Thirteen year old Bethany Hamilton was a very talented surfer who thought surfing was like heaven on earth. At a young age, Bethany was known to be one of Hawaii’s promising surfers. By her 10th birthday, she was winning many contests. Bethany’s life changed when one morning she was attacked by a 15 foot tiger shark and now left with one arm. Bethany Hamilton showed great resilience in overcoming a shark attack in order to achieve her surfing dream.…
This is a picture of me at my favorite surf spot Kona Inn. I was introduced to this spot by my gregarious friend Logan Mccollum. During the production of his bodyboarding video I fell in love with the wave. At first, I was too frightened by the shallow, very jagged reef but soon I began to grow very passionate about these sort of waves. My friends and I would surf this spot and feel like it was our second home. People were hardly ever in the water and most that knew about Kona Inn knew how secret people kept such a discretion about it. Over the years I surfed this spot, it always amazed me how other spots wouldn't have any waves but Kona Inn would. Whether there was waves or not and Kona Inn, Id always have fun reminiscing how some of the best waves I've ever seen came onto this little reef.…
It all started about three or four years ago when my friend or as some people may consider her as my sister invited me to go for two weeks to a beach house for the fourth of july with her family. As soon as the sun was up we hit the road for about five or six hours until we finally arrived to cayucos which in this case was next to moral bay where ¨finding dory was filmed¨. As soon as the car stopped we ran out the car and started running towards the ocean as you hear the waves smashing towards each other. Looking up you can see pelicans flying free and the warmness of the sun hugging your skin. After spending time out on the beach xitclalli and I decided that we should go inside and see our bedrooms we…
I am Bethany Hamilton. I am a professional surfer and sponsored by Rip curl. I grew up in the tropical Hawaiian Islands. I learned to surf at the age of five. I was attacked by a Tiger shark one morning in the light blue sea. The surgery was on my left arm and it is a short stub at the edge of my shoulder. Surfing was my passion and i didn't want to give up. My parents supported me throughout my attack and new surfing technique. My Dad built a specialized surfboard for me and my new challenge. After long days of failing and hitting the bottom of the ocean floor I wanted to give up. I inspired myself and others through my determination. Through all my challenges and struggles I learned never to give up due to one accident. I wrote an autobiography…

Small beach goers speckle the shallow ocean waters, Lifeguards alert stop there rise, searching for troubled swimmers or my next victim. I wait patiently, invisible lurking the waters silently. I am alone, empty, and hungry. I am feared, in your worst nightmare perhaps. Whisking you away into the vast deepness, where it is calm, dark and painful. My coldness slows your body and your lungs being to drain. You struggle to fight for air but it is too late, you take a last breath before, your head sinks. Confused, you begin to struggle swimming down deeper hoping to reach the surface. You open your eyes the salt water burns and you see nothing. Your head pulsing, heart burning, pain pumped…
The day Bethany had been attacked her father was also in the hospital being prepped for a procedure that would be done on his knee. Considering the attack, her fathers procedure had to be put off because they needed the exact room her father was in for Bethany. Her father hadn't heard any news of what had happened to his daughter Bethany all he had heard was something that one of the emergency nurses had said to one of the doctors in the room making sure he was aware of the situation. This emergency nurse had simply said,"Theirs a thirteen year old girl coming, a shark victim" (Hamilton 88). Her father soon realized it was either Bethany or Alana. The procedure that would now be done on Bethany was called a "traumatic amputation." It had turned out that Bethany had lost half of her blood volume 60% to be exact. Loosing that much blood is defiantly critical especially for a girl as young as she was. Bethany had to have her nerves cut, which ended up causing phantom pain. Phantom pain is when you can feel pain from a limb that is no longer their which for her was her left arm that now was going to be referred to as a 3-4 inch stub. Bethany had been told by her doctor Dr. Rovinsky that shark bites preferably tiger shark bites tend to have a higher risk of infection because of how unsanitary their…
I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…
Bethany Hamilton was surfing in Kauai, Hawaii with her best friend Alana Blanchard on Halloween morning when she felt something pull on her left arm. She was rushed to the hospital once she realized that a shark had bit off her entire left arm. A few days after the attack she was all over the news and everyone knew about her. Bethany says “I don't need easy, I just need possible.”…
