Lyrics To Lifeguard's Poem 'Drowning'
Drowning
By: JUNE MANN -- 09|09|16 - Artistic productions

Small beach goers speckle the shallow ocean waters, Lifeguards alert stop there rise, searching for troubled swimmers or my next victim. I wait patiently, invisible lurking the waters silently. I am alone, empty, and hungry. I am feared, in your worst nightmare perhaps. Whisking you away into the vast deepness, where it is calm, dark and painful. My coldness slows your body and your lungs being to drain. You struggle to fight for air but it is too late, you take a last breath before, your head sinks. Confused, you begin to struggle swimming down deeper hoping to reach the surface. You open your eyes the salt water burns and you see nothing. Your head pulsing, heart burning, pain pumped

She struggles against the ripping force of the ocean current. Her arms are quickly tiring from swimming against it. She relaxes, letting her muscles fall limp. Within seconds, she is pushed out to sea. The people on the beach are so small, little tiny ants against a white sand backdrop. The tall condo skyscrapers are now tiny Lego buildings. The kids hollering and music blasting on the beach is faded like a distant memory. She will die out here, she’s sure of it. Her daughter won’t have a mother’s hand to hold when learning to walk. Her husband will be left a widower, forever broken by the loss of his love. She closes her eyes and accepts her fate as she drifts further out to sea. She floats for a long while, the salinity in the water steadily…

    1. "When I recovered, Dad picked me up and heaved me back into the middle of the Hot Pot. 'Sink or swim!' he called out. For the second time, I sank. The water once more filled my nost and lungs. I kicked and flailed and thrashed my way to the surface, gasping for air, and reached out to Dad. But he pulled back, and I didn't feel his hands around me until I'd sunk one more time (Walls,6). Throughout the book, an irregular act of the author was clear mainly due to the harsh parenting style of the father. Although he wants to help her, he does not act with open arms. In other words, he is strict and harsh. For example, the passage states how the father would not help the daughter and forced her to learn how to swim on her own while making her face the situation of drowning. In addition, this passage was attention worthy since it was descriptive. The author clearly described specific details while drowning.…

The last of the ripples had just dissipated when I got to the spot he had disappeared. I took a gulp of air and dove under the brownish surface. I tried to open my eyes, but the filthy water stung and I couldn't see more than an inch in front of me. I felt around blindly and frantically.…

The wave was murky coming towards like a rigid and supreme barrier. It began to coil over, he looked up the wave loomed over him. His father’s words came back to him giving him an urge of determination “a true mariner never deserts a sinking ship.” It heaved itself onto his boat. The boat shredded apart, jagged pieces of timber where floating and he was left sinking. His boat had plunged into the depths of the enigmatic ocean. The salted sea pricked at his delicate eyes and his spectral face white washed. He was crawling for breath kicking his feet neurotically. He managed to clench onto a residue of his boat his naked fingers scratching the plank and splinters dashing up his finger nails. For him time felt suspended. His clothes saturated with water clinging on and sticking onto his skin. He was wrinkling like a prune. He had a vacant expression, solitude was conquering him. He had to overcome this despair as the turbulence of the storm…

I opened my mouth to scream, to let out the heaviness inside of my heart, but I did not hear a sound. All I knew of was the warmth of my tears and the pounding in my head. Imagine you are gliding through the still blue ocean, surrounded by your family and friends. Suddenly, a loud booming sound breaks through the peaceful underworld. Before you know it, you have been herded into a bay and sealed off from the free world. You watch and wait as others are picked and plucked from the water; they are the “lucky” ones. Next thing you know, a metal rod has pierced your spine, instantly paralysing you but not yet killing you. You are then tied to a boat by your feet and dragged through, struggling for breath and slowing drowning. The last thing you see and feel is a blade slicing through your body, spilling out the contents as you drift into eternal darkness. Shocking as it may be, this becomes a harsh reality for many helpless dolphins swimming the Taiji waters.…

I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…

After a while, the first trickles of a frozen stream, melting in the spring sun, creep up my left arm. This trickle develops into a wave, as my thoughts begin to cloud and my mind starts fading in and out of conscious. A mask is placed over the lower part of my face, feeding my lungs with strawberry scented chemicals. I’m fighting a losing battle with my eyelids; eventually, I succumb. The once distinct, monotone beeps and baritone voices in the room begin to drown out. My hearing can be likened to that of a scuba diver, slowly submerging into the deep abyss.…

I run as fast as a storm to get to the blockades for cover. Bullets whizz, whistle and whoosh past. My heart pounds against my ribcage, bursting to jump out. Men tumble to the floor, one by one dropping to their knees, like they are sitting ducks. I stumble and fall into the water, the only thing calm. Slowly sinking, I scream for help. But no sound comes out. The only thing that did was bubbles of air. I was battling Mother Nature herself...this was the end... I close my eyes, slowly running out of oxygen. But my men cut the bag off my back and I’m free...Totally free...…

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

It was 10 o’clock when we were in the plane. After much waiting we finally boarded the plane to Thailand. This was going to be one of the mostmemorable trips of the year. We, the students of Sekolah MenengahKebangsaan Kota Kemuning, were going to do Scuba Diving and Snorkelingon this trip. It was the first time the school had taken any class for watersports. The students of class 4 Science 2 and 4 Science 3 were going togetherfor this trip. The first day in Thailand went off smoothly. We relaxed on the beach and just generally chilled out. The next day we went for snorkeling on the beach.Though we had an expert along with us, we were still quite worried aboutdoing this sport. We entered the water with a lot of fear but we emerged withthe memory of an experience that would be etched in our minds forever. Ittook a while for us to get used to breathing underwater, but we all finally gotthe hang of it. We saw many kinds of fish in the water along with differenttypes of corals. Some of us even held a sea cucumber in our bare hands and wealmost forgot to breathe.Scuba Diving was on the agenda for the next day. Our anxiety levels wereup again. In snorkeling we were on the surface of the water, but now we weregoing to reach the sea bed. We were going to the bottom of the sea. That was a whole new ball game altogether. Again breathing was a problem. But theinstructors guided us very gently.Once we were on the sea bed, we took in the sights around us. We lookedand marveled at marine life. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Our experience was marvelous. I actually felt like I am an intruder in this silent world. At the end of it, I would like to thank to all of my teachers for taking so muchcare of us.This trip left us with an unforgettable memories. We had the time of ourlives. I'm certain no other trip will match up to this one ever.…

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful mermaid that lived in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Her name was Ella. Ella was always cold because the water temperatures in the Pacific Ocean were not as warm as the temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean. Also, the mermen were more suitable for her in the Atlantic. So it was decided, Ella would begin her journey to the Atlantic Ocean across the Panama Canal. But there was a problem, it was tourist season! The most dreaded time of year in Central America. Ella wondered how she could make it across safely with all of the boat traffic. She decided that she would take a chance and risk it for the biscuit. She was only ten feet through the canal and she could already feel the effects of the boat pollution in the water. Oil would stick to her luscious purple tail fin. She wasn’t sure if she would make it, and she slowly drifted into unconsciousness. When she wakes up 7 days later she find herself on the seaweed couch of a handsome merman. He was cooking a delicious meal. He made his way over and said in his sexy merman voice, “I made us breakfast.” Ella was impressed as she began to eat. She looked down at her plate and realized that it was another mermaid that she was eating! He was a cannibal and she was next. Ella was too startled to move, then she realized that she physically couldn’t. The merman must have paralyzed her so she couldn’t escape her inevitable fate. The last thing she saw was a trident, piercing her heart, which spewed out blood. The merman was not very smart in his killing and didn’t take into consideration his shark neighbors. They smelled the blood and rushed over. The sharks were horrified at the murder scene and ate the merman and took Ella to the healing eel where she was revived and lived happily ever after in the Atlantic Ocean with her shark friends. The End.…
