Billy Elliot Song Analysis
T-Rex – Cosmic Dancer
The director choose this song because it matched to feelings and moods of the start of the movie. Just like in the song Billy knows he can dance but is unsure and scared to reveal it to others because he doesn’t think boys can dance. The song is talking about dancing when “I was twelve” and “out of the womb” meaning danced at a young age like Billy. The phrases “I was dancing…” and “Is it strange…” are repeated many times throughout the song and its message connects with Billy and the movie. There are lyrics in the song that state “danced myself out the tomb” and “danced myself into the tomb” meaning dancing your whole life like Billy. This song wasn’t chosen by the director to sound good it was chosen to connect to the movie and specifically the story of Billy.
Bang a Gong (Get it on)
Like the other songs in this movie, the director has selected perfect timings to start playing this song. The feel and mood matches that of the movie. This songs adds to the scene and makes it all the more interesting for the viewer. The lyrics of this song match perfectly the corresponding pictures displayed on the screen at the time

The director choose this song to match to moment in the movie where Tony was trying to escape the police. The energy in the song matches the moment in the movie and makes the scene more exciting and tense. The lyrics are explosive and constant matching the current situation in the movie. The rhythm follows Tony’s footsteps as he charges through houses and pounds down the

Number Two: “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas. This funky disco tune is perfect when the characters in a scene will be having a wacky style of fighting. Featured on mock martial artistry movies like in Beverly Hills Ninja or Kung Fu Panda 2, this song is commonly inserted to a scene when no one knows Kung Fu or even a good fighter. In Horrible Bosses, it was Pellit’s ringtone which leads toHarkin to find him and kill him.…

The words of the song, which are meaningless on paper, gives the proles hope. The proles have taken the song, which was generated by the party, and turned it into a beautiful song of hope that one day the party will be brought down and that life will get better for them. The way the prole with the red arm sings the song, is like she is breathing life into something that was once dead. Her soul tunes show Winston that even something created by the party can be turned into a beacon of hope against them. The song was just another way for the party to entertainment the proles and keep them happy enough not to rebel but dependent enough that they do not get too enraged with the party;“[The tune] was one of countless similar songs published for the benefit of the proles by a sub-section of the Music Department.…

This song portrays a level of joy and excitement for what was being approached. The song at the beginning was paired up with the pleasing pictures of California with clear light blue skies, tall palm trees and the rollercoaster. These images of warmth and fun increased the feeling of enthusiasm that the song suggests. The lyrics from the song say things like “we’ve been on the run” and “here we come.” This foreshadows the negative events that will be displayed as soon as the traders begin to make unethical dealings. California was obviously considered a sort of treasure by Enron. The entire company and more specifically the traders felt a sense of triumph because they were taking over this state. In this scene, the song is juxtaposed with the audio tapes of the traders. This allows the viewer to understand exactly what the traders were thinking at the time of California's struggle. The filmmaker then suggests that Enron was a huge contributing factor of California's budget crisis. Consequently, the audio tapes and the song serve to uphold the argument that a human tragedy was the real story behind the dealings of…

This shows a big issue facing our society, young people caring only about money and just wanting to be respected and known , they do anything including stealing to build a reputation . In the hook , “ Dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block / but that's what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock “, shows how there is still consequences like being on a “ cold cell block “ , going to jail for doing anything in order to hustle, earn money and be respected even if it's bad. In verse three, the song is very imagery and get very vivid describing the rape scene , “ They all proceeded to rape her violently / Billy was made to go first , but each one of them took a turn”. The song suddenly gets even sad and shocking , when billy was told to kill the women, “…

The song is written for listeners to sympathize and understand the writer. There is a lot of time and work that goes into each song, so much that it is really underappreciated. From the start, the entire concept is unique and amazing, as it truly is difficult to express love in the form of a voodoo doll. The different voices and tones of the members give color to the song, as if it were a colorless painting. Each member, just like how they are representing a specific pain, they are a particular color that conveys the pain to their audience. The concept fits each member in a different way and that is what helps tie the song, dance, and videos together in a neat package. The time that is spent to listen, understand, and enjoy this song can be as little and as long as one would want, but the true message is given to the listener the moment it is…

The songs are used to describe many of the characters current situations in the movie. The music is very high pitched and you can feel their emotions as they sing the song. There are many different layers of sound as the characters voices blend together and flow in harmony, having an overall whimsical feeling. I was surprised at how well the actress’s and actors were able to sing the songs considering I have only seen most in sitcoms or movies. The musical made me reminisce of when I was a kid and I would dance and sing these songs with my mother and aunts. I also want to be whisked away to a Greek island. Over all I found the movie and music very refreshing and would recommend to watch the musical and listen to more ABBA.…
