Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk Sparknotes
Many times a book or a movie may have something or somethings going on during the story besides the story itself. A plot twist or theses behind the main idea or character of the story may happen and that may change the entire meaning or way you see, read, and think about the story itself. Have you ever watched or read, a movie, book, or a magazine and noticed a contrast between multiple topics? The things that people, like myself tend to notice many times is the realistic and fantasy ideas and topics that support a main idea or topic. Many stuff such as their surroundings, things happening, and also the issues happening around someone's country, life, or the whole world may be the cause of those types of ideas and that may have an important …show more content…
Billy's and the Bravos weren't the only ones who had things happening to them since the book also would talk plenty about the citizens around them. The story Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is a story that makes and helps people understand the effects that a war may have and what may happen to the survivors and soldiers after it. Reality and fantasies about this book may be about many different things such as war, actions, love, and thoughts. In my point of view, I believe that the story shows the differences between the citizen’s perspective of war than the perspective of the people that actually have been there such as the soldiers like Billy and the Bravos. It always may indicate the way we talk about war, then how it really is by the way Billy explained since he actually experienced war. In some occasions people see those types of people as soldiers then heroes then tend to see them as celebrities while at the end of the day they treat them as just like any other ordinary person once they get tired of them or when they tend to over the fact that they put their lives as risk for their people and country no matter the consequences that that may have or bring to …show more content…
When he came back, he noticed how different things are there in his hometown and the city compared to the war zone in Iraq. For example, the people in Iraq were cautious and scared about the war as well as the bravos and Billy rather than in the U.S. and Texas to be more exact the people were all happy, calm, and proud that their soldiers came back safely and secured. Another thing that Billy had noticed was that he noticed how famous and popular he had got just by being in the war. For example when it says, “Dam irritating look over at the television and see yourself staring at yourself on the Tube.” (Ben Fountain 273) In the story, when they come back they are given an opportunity to go into the field in halftime to get a recognition for their hard work and actions in Iraq. At that point was when reality really hit him since he used to be just a bad boy at his school and then next thing you know he is on television and being called a “hero” by his fellow citizens. In addition, war changed the viewpoint he had for soldiers and the way he thought about then since they’re the ones risking their lives for people they don't even know and for their country just to not be worth it and to not get appreciated at the end of the day after their little

At the beginning of his memoir, Beah illustrates how the civil war split many children, including himself, from their families causing affliction among them by showing how he and other children from his village were abandoned and forced to join the army—or even get captured by rebels. For example, Beah recalls the exact moments when the rebels attacked his village, “When the rebels finally came [into my village], I was cooking. The rice was done and the okra soup was almost ready when I heard a single gunshot that echoed through the town…My heart was beating faster than it ever had. Each gunshot seemed to cling to the beat of my heart…I thought about where my family was, whether I would be able to see them again, and wished that they were safe…

Books, they take you on a journey. A journey of fear, hope, adventure, love and sadness. Some books are fiction, and others take you on a real adventure where things that seem completely fake are real. They take us away from our air conditioned, comfortable homes and take us to a completely different place; one of those books are A Long Walk to Water (Linda Sue Park). Some other books have real world problem but is a made up story, one of these books are Rules (Cynthia Lord). These books are extremely different, but in many ways they’re the same.…

Our heroes silently serve, provide aid around the world and defend the quality of life that Americans enjoy. They are proud of their service and rarely ask for anything in return, so they walk among us, often carrying the scars of their sacrifice. These people often do not get the proper recognition they deserve, as many of them lose their life, and sometimes we don't even take a second to think about it as it happens so often, when we should mourn and respect, these righteous heroes. Yet there are people who indeed disagree with this statement saying that not all soldiers should be categorized as heroes. For example, Chris Hayes is the host of All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC, and three years ago, he stated, “obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism: hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic.” Hayes uses the phrase, “genuine, tremendous heroism” which implies that soldiers have to do more than just fight to be heroes. They have to do more than risk their lives and put everything on the line by just going to war. The standard definition of a hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. The phrase that Hayes uses is a subjective phrase, and he uses it’s meaning in a…

An example of this is when True Son almost escapes to visit Corn Blade. The author writes “the unseen valleys, the unforded streams, the untrodden forest and the great shaggy, unclimbed mountain.” I can clearly see all of these things in my head. The movie also introduces Shenandoah and changes the plot completely. I personally do not enjoy romance movies, therefore, I did not like this change. The ending of the book also left you thinking. I like books that don’t tell you exactly what happened to the characters. You get to make up your own ending, and that’s why I think the book The Light in the Forest is better than the…

Stories of war often seem unrealistic when the reader has not experienced anything of the sort. In the story "The Things They Carried" Tim O'Brien tells war stories through a character named Jimmy Cross. With the detail O'Brien uses in his book he must have experienced these events to be able to describe them in such a fashion. The many friendships and personal relationships Jimmy had could have just been O'Brien's platoon he served with and actual girlfriend, possibly with different names. All of the feelings and emotions of a person who truly went to war are spread out into this book. If it is actually O'Brien's past maybe this was the best way for him to put the memories of his friends dying out in the open and help him stop thinking about…

Sacrifices he, and every other soldier of war, made included his family life, friends, education and physical and mental health. Billy was shot several times, in the shoulder by Abdul (the Turkish sniper), and at least once more in the leg leaving him with an on-going injury. Sacrifice is a trait of war that cannot be avoided by any soldier, however another characteristic they couldn’t do without was mateship. Mateship was an important value to have in war. Billy would have had to have a close relationship with his 2 spotters, Tom Sheehan and Ion Idriess - a sniper needed to work closely with his spotters to achieve the objective set.…

“It ain’t whatcha write, it’s the way atcha write it.” (Jack Kerouac). Many things can make a story interesting, the context is not always the most important. The way a writer tells the story is often what hooks the reader, by creating intriguing and eventful dialogue that attracts the reader. Bundles of information can be helpful in giving the reader insight to the characters life. However that information can only keep a reader attracted for so long as the reader desires a dramatic or traumatic event to occur.…

As said before by many people, the better man in certain situations is the person that learns that they are wrong, are willing to learn from their mistakes, for the sake that they will be able to move on forward from what they learned. The North and the south are like a teacher and student, the North can teach the South as a student how lead the reconstruction era for it to become successful however, its up to the South as the student to see what they think is best. As so the South did act foolish and led to many missed out opportunities for its lands to become successful with allowing the blacks to live as an everyday white person. Now, “the better man is the person who learns from their mistakes” and so that is why I placed the North as the teacher, they learned from their civil war in order to have had been shaped into a great place. Now no side is perfect at this point, with the North agreeing upon the…
