Blast Lab
Analysis:
Gene 1:
The 4 organisms that were looked at in the Gene 1 are bird, vertebrate, rodent and bony fish. From the Blast result the most similar gene sequence to the gene of the gene of interest is Gallus gallus collaged which is also a bird. They are the most similar because the Gallus has the highest max score out of all other genes and 100% for the ident and there is no difference in the e-value. The species is located at the bird’s branch. Its very similar due to the similarities in its ident value and its e-value. The second most similar gene sequence from my own results in the Gene table is Carvus Brachylagus, it has a max score of 6927, a 90% similarity in the ident and a same e-value as the gene of interest.
Gene 2:
In Gene 2 all the gene sequences were very similar to the gene of interest. The closest organism that was similar was Drosophila melanogaster that had the highest max score of 4405 and an ident % of 100 ant an e-value of 0. This shows that it is the most similar organism in the Gene 2 to the Gene sequence of interest. This spicies is located on the top of the insect branch of the cladogram because the most similar organism is a fly. From my data the second most similar Gene sequence that was absorbed was the Drosophila sechelia that had a max score of 648 but ident % of 99, and e-value of 0. It was also a type of a fly.
Gene 3:
From my Blast results the most similar gene sequence to the gene of interest was taeniopugia guttata that had a max score of 2313 and an Ident % of 100. As well as it had an e-value of 0, which means that it’s closely related to the gene of interest. This species is located on the birds’ branch on the cladogram because it has features of a bird. From my data collected of Gene sequence the second most related gene sequence was from meleagris gallopavo . It had amax score of 1781 and an 92% Ident and an e-value of 0.
Gene 4:
From my Blast results the most similar

This tree shows the similarities found between all of the species that were listed on the ortholog search. This helps in narrowing down what the exact function of the gene is. It was determined that the species, Danio rerio, Xenopus tropicalis, Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus, and Homo sapiens all shared similar functions for this gene. Thus the assumption was made that L. cuprina had to have a similar if not exactly the same as the closest species to it. Reading the tree, that species would have to be Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus, and Homo sapiens.…

Candidate gene approach: The candidate gene approach studies the relationship between the traits and known genes that may be associated with the physiological pathways underlying the trait (Liu et al., 2008). Candidate gene approach is implemented in 5 steps: (1) construction or collection of a resource population, (2) phenotyping of the specific components of the trait(s), (3) selection of genes or functional polymorphisms that potentially could affect the traits, (4) genotyping of the resource population for the selected genes or functional polymorphisms, (5) statistical analysis of the phenotypic and genotypic data (Da, 2003). This is an effective way to find the genes associated with the trait. So far a number of genes have been investigated.…

Sequence analysis is a new and one of the most important research areas of bioinformatics. It is nothing but the study of the DNA and genome sequences of different organisms. The study of such sequences help in the comparison of genes and thus leads to the development of new approaches and new technologies for the development and use of genome sequences for different purposes and for the development of new species. These studies can even be used for the identification of causes and treatment options for genetic disorders.…
