Birth Of The Virgin Lorenzetti Analysis

The art that I found the most interesting in the book “Gardner Art through Ages: The Western Perspective” was a painting named Birth of the Virgin. This painting is on chapter 14 page 415 and is figure 14-14. It is a large triptych meaning three part panel. The panel is separated by two white piers and includes arches at the top of each section. It was painted with Tempera on wood. It was created by Pietro Lorenzetti, an Italian Gothic painter of the Sienese school. Pietro Lorenzetti was a student of Duccio di Buonisegna. This painting has a dimension of 6’1’’ x 5’11’. It was originally located and created for the altar of Saint Savinus in the Siena Cathedral, Siena, Italy, in 1342. Anne wearing a burgundy dress. She is seen lying down holding herself up on one arm on a bed that has a plaid blanket colored with orange and black. Next to the bed there seems to be a brown chest. There is a woman behind the right pier sitting on the chest wearing a red dress and is seen holding some kind of banner. She seems to be speaking to St Anne. St. Anne had just given birth to a newborn whom was Mary. It also shows two midwives washing Mary in big bowl. One midwife is wearing a red dress and the other one is wearing an army green dress. The one in the red dress is holding Mary while the other is pouring water into the bowl. There are two other women at the far right walking into the room one wearing a red dress and the other wearing a blue dress. They seem to be bringing in washing accessories. On the ceiling of each arch it is decorated with a navy blue and has beautiful gold stars all over. It makes it seem as if one is looking up at the sky. There are three diamond looking windows at the top of the walls. The tile of this room is decorated with a nice design that is colored with green, red, and
