Besides school, I always favored sports; sports have helped me physically as well as mentally. No matter who I played with I still enjoyed the sport. In my athletics I have befriended people from various backgrounds and realized how the idea of bigotry depends on how someone is raised. The constant shoving of strict beliefs and stereotypes into the children’s heads by their elders’ play a significant influence on how they approach someone or create an image of that person before knowing them. Race, religion, and appearance are all factored into our point of view of one another and our surroundings.
In a society like America that accepts and allows what other societies deny, you can either be ignorant or open-minded. When you are open minded, people often see you as a threat to them. Since change is difficult for many people they have a fear of change. Prejudice can develop simply from the stress of everyday life. If we focus on what binds us together, namely our identity as human beings, then many otherwise challenging obstacles such as discrimination are easily
