Board Meeting Reflection

Rebecca Brush attended Delaware Valley School board meeting held on, October 20, 2016, at 7 o'clock pm. The first major issue discussed was the results from multiple test scores and what direction they were going. We went through all of the elementary school's test results given to us by the first and secondary education chairmen and women, Dr. James Purcell, Dr. Peg Schaffer, and Dr. Gina Vitacco-Vives. They explained after installing a new curriculum the test scores had skyrocketed. For the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test the district was at 74.9 while the state was down at 60.4 for English. Mathematics was at 53.2 for the district and 42.5 for the state. Science was a whopping 83.1 for the district and only a 67.0 for the state. The
Everyone had said it was an exceptional idea to move classes that way the equipment will be used more and fewer people commuting back and forth to both colleges. One concern that I had about the meeting was moving classes to the DVHS campus. I feel as if this is an excellent idea, considering I like twenty minutes of DV and forty-five minutes from Sussex, I would be dumb to not think it is a good idea it is quite a hike to do almost every day. The pros would be more people will be able to take classes since they are right in town. Night classes would be acceptable for someone who lives so far away. Likewise, people could be continually furthering their education and not worry about bad weather or classes running too late at night. Some cons are class size. Class size is a huge factor whether a class should be available to the new move to DV. Most of the population of Sussex is kids who have gone to closing high schools such as Sparta, while not many have gone to DV. Another con would be being able to find a teacher who lives out there or would be willing to drive to DV. Just like the students, many teachers come from the Newton
