Since Old World Monkeys’ are associated with Africa and Asia, the Bonobo would fall into this category. There are two groups of apes; there are Lesser Apes and Greater Apes. Bonobos are classified as Greater Apes.

The bonobos have black hair which parts down the center of their heads, thus covering part of their ears. Bonobos are also born with a white rump tuft (Rowe 1996; de Waal 1997), which they tend to keep as an adult. Bonobo’s face is distinguished from chimpanzees by their lips which are reddish pink and they have black faces with wide nostrils and smallish ears. This can include fruit, seeds, sprouts, leaves, flowers, bark, stems, pith, roots, and mushrooms. At times bonobos are also known to consume insect larvae, small mammals, eggs, earthworms, and honey.

They are predominately female centered. The female bonobo has a rank within the society environment as they age. The female and male associate together for kinship and rank acquisition, and not just for sexual relations. But in order to achieve an alpha status within the group, males must be accepted by the alpha female. The females protect they sources of food and can often attack a male.
The Bonobo live in a fission-fusion social groups, which is where a large community separates into smaller groups. These groups can vary in size and composition; from a lone bonobo to up to 20 or more. The groups are made up of several social groups.
