Complete a book review of Mario Vargas Llosa’s Who Killed Palomino Molero?
The review should be 700 to 1,200 words, 12 font, double-spaced, and in Times New Roman.
Right justify the heading; left justify the title in APA reference format.
Llosa’s work has been seen by some as an indictment of the corrupting influence of both class and race in 1950s Peruvian life. The thesis of your review should focus on either the concept of class and how it may be perpetuated not only by those in power but also by the very people that are negatively impacted by it or an opposing position, i.e., the concept of class has no basis in contemporary American society.
One fourth to one third of the review should summarize the book. This summary does not have to be the first part or portion of the review and can be incorporated into the review as appropriate. I would also suggest that the author’s own background may also be of value in writing your review.
To understand the format of this review, I suggest reading some book reviews from the New York Times Sunday Book Review, The New York Review of Books or another source of reviews. If you go to www.aldaily.com and roll down the page, you will find numerous links to various book review sources in the left hand margin under Book Reviews. Read a few to get the feel of a competent review.
If you express an opinion as to the book itself, do not tell me how “good” or “bad” it is, instead tell me why you thought it was good or bad.
Note – You are required to use the Writing Lab to assist you. You will need to visit the Writing lab twice (I recommend seeing the same individual on both occasions), attaching the two Writing lab worksheets to the back of your submitted work.
Reminder – Feel free to use the internet for background but do not use any wording or ideas from online reviews.
