Greta Bosel’s Part In The Holocaust
While researching Greta Bosel I figured the best way to talk about Greta was to talk about her whole life, from childhood to the gallows. While her role in the holocaust could be considered small compared to figures such as Hitler, and Josef Kramer her job as a concentration camp input overseer should not be overlooked. Seeing as they were too far gone to be considered innocent their next strategy was to destroy the evidence. Uniforms, documents, and yes the prisoners. Using the relatively new gas chambers the Nazis saw to the extermination of at least five thousand and as much as six thousand people. However, despite their efforts there was just too many prisoners and not enough time. The soviets were advancing on their position with a vengeance. So, The guards gassed as many as they could, sent the rest on a death march, and fled the concentration camp. Their goal of avoiding the soviets was successful as they evaded Stalin’s wrath. Fortunately, they did not anticipate the British advance, and the fleeing camp guards were captured. As for Ravensbruck. It was liberated on April 30th, 1945 by the soviets. The estimated number of victims were 92,000”. Not long after the liberation soldiers caught up to the Ravensbruck death march and freed the survivors. With the discovery of the camp came the Hamburg Ravensbruck trials for Greta Bosel. On trial Greta,accused number seven,gave her defense. Her testimony included many contradictions, and was given without much emotion. She was found guilty of murder, maltreatment, and for taking part in the selection process.
