Bowker Dialectical Journal
One could almost see Bowker’s stressed, confused, yet accepting face through the words in the letter. He’s pouring out his thoughts about life and his place in it, all along the way thinking about what he has said and what he’s going to say next as seen in the second part of the letter that Bowker shows: “God, this is starting to sound like some jerkoff vet crying in his beer. Sorry about that.” (150). It’s here that the roller coaster of emotion levels out a little bit and we can see direct evidence of Bowker start to use this letter as a platform for self-reflection. Generally self-reflection is supposed to be used to identify personal issues to fix them and eventually make yourself into a happier, better person. Here, Bowker attempts to

I was only a member of the Fallen Lamb for a few nights at the time, but never had I seen the sea as beautiful as it was then. She glistened a deep blue, and clashed against the hard wood of the ship, waves rising until it hit the hull then falling back into the sea. Getting used to the constant rocking of the ship was incredibly difficult at first, but I managed to retain my balance after a week or so. Anyways, I made my way to the main deck, passing through the kitchen first so I could grab a bite to eat. All we had left for breakfast were apples that were once fresh, but old and bruised now.…

He was very shocked because he thought he locked the door before, but I guess he didn't. He thought to himself “ wow, good thing it is the night or else we would be out of money and business because of that animal. I think that cage was a penguin, he would have eaten all of the customer's fish sandwiches because he loves fish.. I better go find him.” So he went off looking for the penguin. He looked in the bird section, monky section, element section, and many more, but he couldn't find the penguin. The only two places he didn't look in where the fish exhibit and the, oh no would he have gone in the lion section, if he had I would get fired for shere. So he ran to the lion exhibit but the…

In the letter from Scout to Jem, we see Scout's’ point of view and how she feels. It shows that she is sad that Boo gave them so much and they did not give him anything in return like a good neighbor should have. To convey this, a flowery background symbolizes a neighbor's job to look after one another and the items in the pouch exhibits what Scout and Jem were given I feel that this establishes a feeling of growing maturity because the flowery background also symbolizes the growth of a young girl at the stage of coming of age experiences were a young bud becomes a flower not yet too old to shine like glitter which reveals that pouch holding items is like the pouch of a mother kangaroo because they hold their young in that pouch and Boo cares…

Emily's iron- gray hair has chronological significance in the story. First, the hair belongs to Emily, who had sometime slept on the bed beside Homer Baron's dead body, near where it was found. This term “Iron-Gray” had only lied within passage 4 in paragraph 6 when the narrator describes changes in appearance of Emily: “During the next few years, it grew grayer and grayer until it attained an even pepper-and-salt iron- gray, when it ceased turning”(Faulkner, 4.6) this happened during the period of 6 or 7 years when she gave out china-painting lessons after Homer disappeared. Second, the phrase “Iron- gray hair” has connotations that can be applied to the story. The word: “Iron” could mean stubborn, or iron willed. Stubborn is definitely a describing word for Emily. The group of narrators describes a time when Emily came to pick up a bottle of Arsenic from the general store: “Why, of course”, the druggist said, “if…

plus c’est la même chose, plus ça change – The more things remain the same, the more they change. The narrator then says “Nothing endures, not a tree, not love, not even death by violence. This is significant because if he had something bad happen no matter how different it looks it will never change.…

For this reason, I chose this passage since this was the moment that Beli's life has permanently altered subsequent that unmerciful beating occurrence. This passage stood out while I was reading it and left an impression of heartbreak knowing the pain that Beli had to endure. After that merciless beating, I believe Beli lost confidence in humanity and died on the inside. In fact, I do not approve of violence also I disapprove of men laying a hand on any women under any circumstances. Beli's boyfriend Gangster took advantage of her because she was young and naive. Meanwhile, Beli fell for all of Gangster's dishonesty and believe all of his broken promises. Older men tend to take advantage of young girls and mold them when they are…

Q1. I believe that I relate the most to the narrator Paul Bäumer throughout the story. I chose Paul because we do share things in common, but because he is the narrator we are able to know and learn the most about him. With Paul narrating everything that happens, we are able to experience the events and his feelings towards them. As a reader, it allows us to feel what he feels, we are able to get to know him the best. Therefore, I feel that I am able to relate and see myself being most like Paul Bäumer.…

I'm very sorry to say that I went home this weekend and got on the 7:55 train this morning that is now running late and I'm afraid I won't be able to make it on time to class.
