2) Learning new terms and techniques keeps the mind elastic.

3) It will give him a greater appreciation for those that do cook and the effort involved.

4) Homemade meals often contain less artificial/man-made ingredients then commercially made or manufactured meals.

5) Advanced skills allow one to be creative in the kitchen (being able to identify and change the overall recipe and ingredients and come up with something new).
