Ben Hall and Maguire may have divided the property and operated independently of each other, as in John McGuire's narrative, 'The Biography of a Reliable Old Native', Maguire states that Ben Hall reputedly named his portion 'Cubbine Bin', running his own cattle and horses, and when required the two men worked together in clearing and forming stockyards close to their water supply, this would have been a prudent way to operate a new farming enterprise in the 1860’s, and thus the two squatters shared the yearly rent to the government, as for the acquiring of stock for this new enterprise, John Maguire states that Ben Hall and himself had done a bit of duffing, Maguire…
SNCs’ five paragraph order contained pertinent information, but was heavily punctuated with the use of filler words such as “uh” which hindered the flow of the order and made it difficult to understand. SNC’s Situation paragraph was briefed out of sequence. During movement to the objective SNC moved throughout the squad to ensure proper dispersion and physically moved subordinates who did not immediately correct dispersion. Upon receiving enemy contact, SNC issued clear orders and ADDRAC. SNC lost mission focus, to resupply a desperate squad, and instead allocated his entire squad to assault a lone enemy’s fighting position. During the assault, SNC lead from the front, directing his fire team leaders to alter direction of attack and maintain…
Dan O’Brien is one of those guys with whom you only need to speak for a short while before you understand how deeply connected he is to hunting — and to the animals he hunts. At age 48, O’Brien is already a 35-year bowhunting veteran. As a youngster in Pennsylvania, he got his introduction to hunting from his dad. Since then, O’Brien has taken hundreds of deer over the years, and most of those deer have been bow kills.…

My mom now tries to learn whenever she notices any sign in English as we continue our trip! LOL! THANK YOU, Merete!!! Tell us when you travel to China one…
Part 3 had many commendable moments where Blixen was able to fully engulf the reader in her own world. When Blixen wrote about her lion hunting adventures with Denys I felt as though I was also there crouched near the coffee trees, waiting for Denys to let off a shot. Blixen very carefully described the whole set up of the situation, and the exact movements of all parties involved during the hunt, which made the reader feel as though they were there in that very moment. Blixen’s writing is quite obviously descriptive, initially I had thought that her writing was too descriptive. However, after one of our previous classes I was able to see what Blixen was doing. To make the narrative more accessible for the reader Blixen used multiple descriptions,…
Addiction is a worldwide epidemic. Many people in all parts of the world have addictions. Whether it be gambling, exercise, illicit drugs, shopping, or sugar. Studies show that nearly 80% of people have some sort of an addiction. I have always found addiction and addictive behavior to be very interesting. Some addicts are believed to have been born with an addictive personality. People born with addictive personalities are thought to form problematic, unhealthy, addictions much easier and much earlier in life. Some even have multiple addictions at the same time. Some people do things like run and exercise every day, but to the point that it is not healthy. When things like running or exercise have become not-so-healthy, it usually goes unnoticed. Most people do not see activities such as exercise as possible problematic, addictive, behavior, but anything that is done excessively can become unhealthy.” The unproblematic addictions are the ones that do not cause any problems. An unproblematic addiction would not cause any type of life disrupting issue and is not life threatening in any way, and those are the addictions that ok to have.…
In the section “Writing a Literacy Narrative” the four writers, Emily Vallowe, Marjorie Agosín, Shannon Nichols, and Sofia Gomez, all use a number of aspects in order to write a decent literacy narrative. The chapter begins by introducing four good examples of literacy narratives from each of the writers. However, the chapter’s main focus is not about the four examples. In the end of the chapter, a detailed list of key features regarding a literacy narrative is mentioned including the following: a well-told story, vivid detail, and some indication of the narrative’s significance. The thesis is that all of the key features will entail a well written literacy narrative if done properly. The author supports the claim by explaining that a well-told…
Boon’s Narrative is a primary example of American Romanticism. In Filson’s writing, Boon is a strong hero who travels through Kentucky to survey the land for John Filson. The narrative is composed of descriptive details and models aspects of myths such as a hero’s adventure through perilous lands. The narrative also encompasses important features of American Romanticism. The narrative depicts the beauty and danger of the land: as well as, the mysterious atmosphere of nature. The narrative shows the expansiveness and resource availability of Kentucky. Filson’s reason for writing is similar to Smith’s work because both are using persuasion to obtain what they want. Filson’s reason for writing the narrative is to find investors for the 13,000 acres he obtained in Kentucky. Filson is using persuasion tactics and imagery to strengthen the…
As I placed the car into park, turned the key off and stepped into the crisp cold winter air, I begin to feel my pulse raise. With each step we took drawing us closer to the door, I felt my heart beating faster. With a quick turn of the ice cold door knob, I found myself standing in a whole new world. The food, the music, the faces, the language, everything was different than what I knew. For the first time in my life I was the minority in my small home town of Winamac, Indiana.…
Back in 1986, when I was in eighth grade; my first experience with computers was horrible. We would sit in class and enter line after line of code; which made as much sense to me as typing in a foreign language. I was typing in letters and numbers, but had no idea what they meant. Hours were spent this way; so at the end of the exercise I could hit ”enter” and see some lines flash across the screen over and over. By the time I was finished with eighth grade I never wanted to see another computer ever again. Unfortunately the following year in high school I had to take a computer course. It was more of the same; a bunch of codes and “mumbo-jumbo” that had no meaning to me what so ever. I struggled through…
The story I chose to read in the novel Storyteller, is Tony’s Story. The story is about two indian men. One of the men, Leon has just returned from the war and the other Tony has stayed on the reservation his whole life. Tony meets up with Leon at a festival where a state cop beats Leon up for no apparent reason. That night, Tony has a dream that reveals to him the cop is actually a witch. A couple days later the two men go to a gas station where Tony sees the cop again. The cop follows them and pulls them over, for no reason. Some time later, Leon and Tony go to a sheep camp together and on the way there the cop pulls them over again. At this point Tony is so convinced the cop is a witch, he takes Leon’s gun and shoots him. Leon does…
