Another death was near the end of the novel and “[Murray’s] uncle’s breathing became thinner and drier until eventually it stopped.” So the uncle lived a whole life, until eventually his time comes and he dies, and that's just a part of life that we all have to deal with, like the soldiers who died in war. Murray and his family lived on a farm so it was a common thing to die on a farm. So when there was a fire once “they found [Mr Barrett] by the stables.” He died in the fire trying to save the horses for the farm, because when you have a farm there is more to think about than just yourself and your family. So Palmer shows through the book the value of death, and how we all have to deal with it, no matter how unexpected or expected the death is.
