This surgery takes out the whole growth and some of the surrounding tissue and this is called an excisional biopsy, and if their growth is too large and they cannot remove all of it they will remove part of the lump and this is called incisional biopsy (American Cancer Society, 2016). Another biopsy that can be done is a lymph node biopsy and this is when the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes that are under the arm or around the clavicle. This biopsy can be done with just a needle, but there are some that can require surgery. The lymph node biopsy that requires is called lymph node dissection and sentinel lymph node biopsy. This is the surgery that they many do with men because with men they catch it when they are in a later stage and this gives the cancer the chance to spread to the lymph nodes. There are two types of surgeries that they can use when they want to test if some of the lymph nodes are …show more content…
At these lower stages the most that they usually have to do is to just remove the cancerous tumor. With this stage removing the tumor is usually all it will take because the cancer has not spread and you take all the cancer out when the tumor is removed. The procedure that they usually use is either a mastectomy or removal of some of the lymph nodes (malecare, n.d.). Since the cancer is caught early chemotherapy may not always be necessary, but for some patients it may be recommended. With stage 2 the cancer has now spread into some of the lymph nodes, making the cancer a little stronger than it was in the lower stages. With the cancer still not to far along the doctors may start with chemotherapy and try and shrink the cancer or stop it from spreading any farther. Once the cancer is under control all that may be required after is either an axillary lymph node dissection or a sentinel lymph node biopsy (American Cancer Society, 2016). Stage 2 male breast cancer is still caught fairly early that the treatments are not going to be as dreadful as it is for the later
