Brief Summary: The Effects Of Adversity
“THUNK” that was the sound of my two front teeth shattered on the ice last year. The dentist said they couldn't put in implants until my jaw and gums have finished growing. I got really mad because this was the second time I had broken my teeth in 4 years. I used 2 advanced life skills: creativity and independence.

I had adversity from my breaking my teeth, but that wasn’t all that gave me adversity.
It was really hard because I didn't have many friends for a few months and was insulted quite a bit. All because my good friend Eli slid into me the first Monday after Thanksgiving of 2014.

After the start of this adversity the effects were happy and sad. The happy one was that I could focus more on sports. The sad one was that I became very

Adversity, means having resiliency during difficult times and misfortunes. Throughout the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring directed by Peter Jackson, Jackson displays how Adversity Influences and shapes a character's identity through the protagonist Aragorn “strider”. My father worked in the United States Marine core during my adolescent years, and because of it we were constantly moving around. I believe it made me more of an adaptable person, however once I met whom I considered my best friend moving around was not so fun anymore. I’ve always been more of a quiet person so meeting friends was not easy for me, and the few I had were as close to me as family. Moving to Philadelphia from Virginia was very traumatic for me at that age. My parents told me that I would have many meaningful people come in and out of my life as time went on, but at the time I figured I would never find another friend like the one I had. After months of being in a very depressive state I became very close friends with our neighbor’s daughter whom is still one of my closest…

    Adversity In Night

Racing their way down the ramshackle streets of an all-American slum, two young boys hurry home. Next-door-neighbors on the seedy side of town, the two children share fears, sorrows, and joys. Yet while one boy will attend a prestigious medical school, his friend will join the gang down the street. In their diverging paths, these boys challenge common beliefs about adversity. One such belief belongs to Roman poet Horace. Says the philosopher, “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” In the case of the first boy, Horace’s assertion holds true, but his friend’s case reveals its falsehood. Adversity, then, is a fickle matter; one cannot predict whether an adverse experience will…

My first few weeks were a rough adjustment; I was left without a constant support system and had to learn how to support myself. The friends that I made the first few weeks resembled the friends that I had my freshman year of high school. They made me feel terrible about myself and I dreaded hanging out with them. It came to a point where I decided that I’d rather be alone than be with people who made me not like who I was. It was like being teleported back to my sophomore year; however, I was determined to not let my depression get the best of…

Adversity helps to build strong people and individuals and it gives them strength after they overcome their obstacles. Obstacles that are difficult to get through may provide new opportunities in a person’s life, and even though it can be argued that adversity has more negative effects that positive, adversity also unites people. Adversity brings people together with a common goal to face hardships that will create stronger bonds between people who may come from many different walks of…

"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant." What Horus described in this quote, meant that when hardships or impossible tasks face a person, and if that person has the courage and will to achieve them, the man will uncloak his true strengths. No one could disagree with this, including me. Believing in our own skills and believing that anything can be achievable, creates a way for us to prove others wrong and prove yourself right. Millions of people have done extraordinary things, and although we have no heard every story, we have heard many terrific and exciting ones. A man in Japan who pursued his dream of becoming a ninja, two very brave men who rescued people from a car upside down in a river, and the very extraordinary Fauja Singh who became the famous 100- year-old marathon runner. Izzy Arkin, a living legend for inspiration. Three years ago he lived in US and he worked at a job he completely despised. He became stressed out, overwhelmed, and downright depressed. He knew others felt like that. He knew that many people had to sacrifice their dreams and work in depressing jobs just as he did. Yes, everything in the job created opportunities for him, but he felt dead inside. The job did not fulfill his true dream. Therefore he decided to quit his job and pursue his dream. He moved from the US to Japan to pursue his childhood dream: to become a ninja! His true courage to quit his job and life in the US and to accomplish his long lost and recently achieved dream of becoming a ninja and that became an inspiration to others. He used his pursuit of a dream as a "vehicle to courage, inspire and educate others to follow their dreams." He has his own site: The 30 Year Old Ninja, and every day, he receives emails where people acknowledge him as an inspiration and how he has "changed their life." Life changing also applies to an incident at Summerville Bonavista Bay, on August 19, 2007, where John…

I was distraught! I could not bear another drastic change in my life. I now, going into high school, had to attempt to make new friends. I came to Baltimore with a pessimistic attitude regarding making friends. I convinced myself that all the girls had their click of friends since elementary and middle school. Therefore, during my first year of high school, I ate lunch alone while catching up on work or went do the gym to shoot basketball hoops. I hated change and thought there was no point in trying to make the best of the situation and actually attempt to make friends. That year I focused solely on adjusting…

This paper was especially hard for me to write. Usually there is a very strict explanation as to what is needed and expected. However, with this paper it was different. We got a statement and were able to choose the way in which we wanted to portray the idea or thought. To me that is difficult. I have never been one to be short on words and can normally be found talking to whom ever will listen. The topic that we must write on is "Bravery in the face of Adversity." One definition of bravery I found was " a quality of spirit that enables one to face danger or pain without showing fear. Adversity has been defined as a condition marked by misfortune or bad luck. My first thought was to write about the Civil War and African-American soldiers.…
