My name is Madison Johnson. I am in the 9th grade. I am in Mrs. Logan’s biology class. I am doing my project on “The Magic Floating Egg”. Eggs sink in normal tap water and I am testing whether or not changing the density of water will make the egg float. I was looking at projects on sciencebuddies.org and I saw that multiple people had done this. I am trying to prove that when you add a certain amount of salt to water, it will make it more dense. My results to my findings to my brine shrimp experiment was started on 12-28-15, using 4 jars. Each jar contained water, salt, and brine shrimp eggs. I started by filling each jar with tap water and then adding salt. I added 1 TSP of salt and each jar added ½ TSP more of salt. In my experiment I noticed on the first day, 12-28-15, in all the jars the brine shrimp eggs were added to the 4 jars. Some observations I noticed were the eggs didn’t sink right away, they stayed on the surface for awhile. On the second day, 12-29-15, in jar 1 85% of the brine shrimp eggs hatched. In jar 2 75% of the brine shrimp eggs hatched. In jar 3 65% of the brine shrimp eggs hatched, and in jar 4 70% of the brine shrimp eggs hatched. All 4 of the jars had the same observations, they didn’t swim gracefully, they were on the side of the jar with more light, and there was still unhatched…
For this project, I made a capsule for an egg that is to be dropped from about twenty feet. This capsule that I made was not what I was thinking at first but when I started to build it, I saw that this capsule would hold better than the one that I was thinking which was a triangular capsule with the egg in the middle but I saw later one that the egg would break if it hit one of the flat sides. The capsule is a cube that is made out of the tongue depressors and I used most of the yarn for the big cage and I used the Elmer’s glue to glue the tongue depressors together. I used pieces of the paper clips to hold the popsicle sticks together with the tongue depressors and some more glue. I then made the center, which was made by two popsicle sticks that I had which formed into a triangle and I made a little railing around it with the paper clips. I then put the cotton puffs inside the triangle that was formed with the two popsicle sticks and it is used to cushion the egg while it’s falling so when it hits the floor, then it wouldn’t receive all the damage if the cage were to break and the small egg holder were to fall out of the capsule or if it were to hit the floor straight. I used the pipe cleaners to hole the egg inside the egg holder so that it doesn’t fall out of it and break. I used some glue to glue the cotton puffs to the railing that was made for the egg holder and to the two popsicle sticks.…

One of our traditions that my family and I have is cascaron egg hunt. We only do this on easter, so what we do is inseatd of waking up and finding eggs in a basket we go out side and find cascarones, which our confetti eggs. Who ever has found the most cascarones gets to be the frist one to crack an cascaron on someone head. By the time when everyone is done cracking cascarones on everybodys head, theres a big mess it looks like a confetti bomb blew up.…

“In what way can a drop an egg off of a building without it cracking?” when I first asked this question a believed that it would be an easy task. I however, was very wrong. As I came up with ideas Mr.Billy kept on turning them down saying “that isn’t allowed.”, but in my defence most of the things that were not allowed were not written in the rules.
