In the 1930s, two churches in Bradley with bells in relatively short steeples and standing in close proximity to each other became the setting for a Halloween prank enacted by a group of mischievous and ingenious boys. At each church, as groundwork for their shenanigans, they secured one end of a sufficiently long rope to the bell clapper and tossed the other end out of the steeple to the ground. The boys launched their stunt by ringing one of the bells from a hidden vantage point on the ground. Trying their best to control outbursts of laughter, they watched as the local law enforcement officers raced to the scene and entered an empty church in pursuit of the perpetrators. Once the officers engaged in an inspection of…

There are many animals in the world. Some of them as small as ants and some are even bigger than elephants. These animals live throughout the world, some in the gigantic oceans, some in the coldest of Antarctica or some in the hottest of deserts. These are the classes of animals, mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles, and insect. Reptiles are cold-blooded vertebrates. They have dry skin covered with scales or bony plates, and they usually lay eggs. Reptiles can be classified into three groups, turtles, snakes, and lizards. There are lots of species of turtles, like the sea turtle who live in the oceans. They can be identified by their long, streamlined shell and their color range of olive-green, yellow, greenish-brown, reddish-brown, or black.…

This hands-on laboratory exercise is a highly simplified model that attempts to simulate evolution by means of natural selection. Predators will act as agents of selection on their prey, a species whose members vary in color. We will assume that color is an inherited trait. Small squares of paper will represent the prey, which will be spread out of a piece of printed colored fabric that will serve as the habitat. The predators (you) will prey upon the population, with the surviving members reproducing and passing along the genes for color.…
BANG! BANG! BANG! Those are the typical sounds heard in the woods on the first Saturday of October. What are you those sounds? They are gun shots that are being fired by the many hunters trying to kill their first squirrel of the season. Sure there are more things to hunt other than just squirrels but the most common and most important in small town Deville is none other than squirrel hunting. Several people hunt for either just the sport of the game or to provide food. Others even use their kill for other thing such as the coat of their kill or to even mount it to provide decoration in their homes. Hunting takes place everywhere in the world, including the United…
This egg drop experiment forced me to think and develop a design that I felt confident with. I developed several models and tested them numerous times, but could not settle on one. Eventually, I was able to put an addition onto one of my designs which gave me confidence in its ability to protect that precious egg. I will explain why my design worked so well in respect to impulse, air resistance, and stability.…
“In what way can a drop an egg off of a building without it cracking?” when I first asked this question a believed that it would be an easy task. I however, was very wrong. As I came up with ideas Mr.Billy kept on turning them down saying “that isn’t allowed.”, but in my defence most of the things that were not allowed were not written in the rules. In the end our design was very successful in safely delivering the egg to the ground. With changes it probably could have been improved, I was happy with our results though.…
Osmosis is a process where molecules pass through a semi permeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one, equalizing the concentrations on each side of the membrane. Diffusion is the spreading of something more widely.During the osmosis and diffusion lab I tested what happens to a fresh egg when osmosis and diffusion across membranes. The eggs were placed in vinegar, distilled water, and then lastly syrup. The eggs were weighed every day to see if they got heavier or lighter. My hypothesis is that the eggs will absorb the contents it’s placed in and will become heavier. First, the fresh hen's eggs were placed in vinegar. On March 10th, 12 eggs were placed…
The purpose of this lab was to test the effects of hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic environments on the weight of a shell-less egg. We tested the weight of the egg after thirty minutes in water as well as corn syrup. I hypothesized that when the egg was placed in water, it would swell and gain weight because it was in a hypotonic environment. That hypothesis was correct as the egg grew slightly and the weight when up. I also hypothesised that when the egg was placed in the syrup, it would shrink because there was more solution on the outside than on the inside.…

The egg in the vinegar got bigger, as the fluid moved into the egg, and the fluid level went down. This is an example of a hypertonic solution. In the distilled water the egg got slightly larger, but not as much as in the vinegar, as only a small amount of water moved into the egg; a more isotonic environment. After being in the syrup, the egg became smaller as the water moved out of the egg and into the syrup molecules. This is a hypotonic environment.…
For this I wrapped an egg in bubble wrap and put it in a Ziploc bag blown up with air. I put another Ziploc around the first and filled it with water, and then put a larger Ziploc around that and filled it with water. This was to lessen the impact by allowing the egg to float and bob in the water. When dropped both water bags exploded as expected, absorbing the force.…
