Brinkley's Monologue
A small country named Freedonia is in dire need of help. An extremely wealthy woman named Mrs. Teasdale comes to the rescue and agrees to bail Freedonia out of bankruptcy as long as they make Rufus Firefly their leader. It turns out that Firefly makes a terrible leader and is even quoted as telling the citizens of Freedonia that they think their country is doing badly now, they should just wit until he gets through with it Reduces work hours by shortening lunch hours. He continues his “leadership” by continuing to enrage his cabinet as well as the people of Freedonia and he is portrayed as an egotistical and foolish leader. After being appointed to power, Firefly attempts to win the favor of Mrs. Teasdale and ends up insulting her friend Trentino as well who is the ambassador of a neighboring country called Sylvania. In fact, it turns out that Trentino is also trying to get Mrs. Teasdale’s romantic attention as well. And, he arranges to have a bar singer named Vera distract Firefly so that he can make his move. He also sends people to spy on him and the two begin to fight for Mrs. Teasdale’s attention. Firefly ends up ruining Trentino’s proposal to Mrs. Teasdale and the two become very angry with eachother. …show more content…
Later, Trentino attempts to avoid war and agrees to meet and settle their differences. In response, Firefly agrees to apologize to Trentino in order to make amends. However, Firefly has such a big ego that he is worried that Trentino will reject his apology and will embarrass him. So out of fear of being humiliated, he panics and decides to slap him instead. Trentino is infuriated and declares war. The movie ends when Trentino is trapped in the door frame and surrenders while Firefly and his men throw oranges at him. Mrs. Teasdale sings out the national anthem as the men comically begin to turn and throw oranges at her
