The impact western culture had on India, with education and technology led to culture shock, thus learning English empowered many people to demand more social, political and economic rights. Drawing in people from cities, towns and villages across British India, with people of all religions, over the course of the movement, estimated 90,000 Indians were arrested . The salt march was the rebellion to civilians forbidden to manufacture or even pick up seal salt from the water without paying taxes on it. Gandhi was the first one to break the law and urged everyone to do so and boycott foreign cloth and liquor shops . By the end of the campaign more than 90,000 people were arrested . The non-cooperation movement led to two round table meetings in London, the British’s intent was to combine Indian government with semi-autonomous provinces while keeping British power as its core. India’s congress was opposed to this idea, the Muslim league leader; Jinnah wanted a strong centralized Indian government, where Muslims were guaranteed an important position . According to Walsh “After the second round table meeting, no resolution was met and the congress party was declared illegal, its funds confiscated and records destroyed. Within months, 40,000 Indians, including Ghandi were in jail for the next two years” . By the end of the Second World War, the British soon began to lose their autonomy and had forced them out of India with being in-debt to India.Ghandi capitalized and undertook his last campaign that lasted from 1945-1947 .
