Experts warn that sugar contribute to some of the worst diseases: cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Therefore, you should watch out for the daily consumption of sugar and choose the least harmful alternative for your health.
What is considered moderate consumption of sugar?
* 8 teaspoons maximum each day for healthy people;
* 2 teaspoons maximum each day for people experiencing problems with hypertension.
Warning! Just because it's 'brown' sugar, doesn't necessarily mean it's unrefined!
Always read the label to see if it clearly states the word "unrefined." …show more content…
Refined sugar loses all the nutrients from the processes being performed, while raw sugar retains these beneficial substances.
2. Refined sugar provides the body with undesirable "empty calories" as nutritionists call it, while raw sugar contains some protein, vitamins and minerals (phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium) that our body needs.
3. By refining the sugar composition, it is then combined with other harmful substances such as phosphoric acid, sulfur dioxide, and formic acid. They do not exist in unrefined or raw sugar.
4. Do not confuse unrefined brown sugar with brown sugar that you find in stores, because the darker color can be obtained by mixing white sugar with molasses. Depending on the amount of molasses used, the sugar may be darker or lighter. Nutritional content of this type of combined sugar is similar to refined white sugar --- not the kind you want!
5. Unrefined or raw sugar processing --- it is more natural, easier to digest for the body and includes fewer calories, unlike refined sugar.
