Introduction
Brush Creek is a nice river that we are trying to figure out what kind of pollution and other things in the creek. The purpose is to see if Brush Creek is at the level for people to able to get into it and be safe. My hypothesis is that the creek will have little pollution around the site area. The expected outcomes are that we will find lots of creatures there and the dissolved oxygen levels are high. Site Description
The location that we surveyed was at site number three which is at sixty Third Street in Kansas. The locater is NE ¼, NE ¼, NW ¼, Section 15, Township 125, and …show more content…
The reason why we did this is to see if the water could support life and give off conductivity for things to grow. The second test was testing the hardness, nitrates and nitrites, and the pH level of the creek. Reasons why we test this is because only certain levels of pH support life and water hardness and nitrates also affects growth. Turbidity test is where you fill a tube and measure how many inches till you can see the bottom of the tube. This test shows how dirty or clean the water is and how visible the water is. The last test was for dissolved oxygen within the creek and this one took a while. Finding out what kind of saturation the creek has of oxygen is the most important thing in finding out if the creek can support life and is not …show more content…
The nitrite count was .90 ppm, and nitrate count is .05 ppm. The conductivity was 210 while the turbidity was 21 inches. The pH for the creek was 7.8 and the water hardness was at 120 ppm. The alkalinity, the total chlorine and free chlorine were all at zero ppms. These results were not very good from the pollution aspect. All of these show that my hypothesis was not right about the site that we survey. Fecal Coli form
We found that the more of just creek water the more fecal matter that will show up. The most we would see if looked for fecal would be just from mostly creek water. Without diluting the creek water the fecal count would be high. Macro invertebrate Counts
The only Macro invertebrate we found was one aquatic worm. This results in the creek receiving a poor water quality rating according to the data sheet. The lack of Macro invertebrates shows us that the water really can't support much of any kind of life. Visual Survey
The houses are right along the creek and there has been a lot of human contact with the creek. Where we surveyed there was a rock wall and bridge which shows that human must be tampering with the creek in some
