This style of architecture was popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s and used for governmental, educational, community, and mass housing. In Britain, massive complexes were erected and were like large compounds. The buildings were favored for affordability and durability.
In my opinion, I believe that there are more people
that dislike this architectural style than those that do. Also, I would like to point out that there are few structures that I find appealing, like the Grand Central Water Tower, in Midrand, South Africa or the Reading Space or Jinhua Architecture Park in Jinhua, China. However, some of it looks to me like a parking garage, or a prison, or a “larger than life” game of drunken Jenga. If you are one that does not like the style, I have good news for you. These types of structures are being demolished at an increased rate. Besides the fact that there are people that do not like the buildings, unfinished concrete is not as durable as it was once thought and requires massive maintenance to help it age well. Many of the buildings have leaks and stains in the concrete and are prone to graffiti.
