Identifying Behaviors
Tool description:
After asking questions to determine what irrational beliefs a client is having, this tool is used to group those beliefs into themes. Some themes include; all or nothing, mind reading, over generalization, discounting, magnification, emotional reasoning, or self- blame. Each of these themes helps the client to understand why the belief is considered irrational.
How you believe the tool might be useful:
This tool may be useful while working with a client to put their beliefs or “feelings” into perspective, it provides a reason the belief is present, but it also demonstrates the irrationalism it holds.
Reason you chose this tool:
We chose to report on a tool from each of the three phases RET (Rational Emotive Therapy) includes. The identifying behaviors technique tool was chosen because it is frequently used during the first of the three phases.

Behavioral Tool: Systematic desensitization
Tool description:
A technique used in behavior therapy to treat phobias and other behavior problems involving anxiety; client is exposed to the threatening situation under relaxed conditions until the anxiety reaction is extinguished.
How you believe the tool might be useful:
This tool I believe helps the therapists and client see exactly what goals and obstacles they are trying to overcome. Each step is written down and there are series of events that the client must overcome to get past their fears.
Reason you chose this tool:
I would think this tool most would relate to. You could use this really in any situation. You are asking the client what they are most afraid off then finding smaller ways to expose them to those elements. Little by little as they expose themselves more to that element they lower that anxiety level.
