In this report I will talk about the decision you have to make before upgrading a software program and some advice so you won’t encounter any errors or difficulties!
The things that make you upgrade can be:
• New Features – There might be new things that might make your work better.
• Improved Performance – This might mean that the performance is much faster.
• Security – This new update will feature some security changes and will keep you safe from any viruses.
All these things above can make your mind up if you want to upgrade or not, it is always better to upgrade any software if told so but make sure the content is reliable from where you’re downloading the update from.
The potential risk that may occur when upgrading are:
• Bluescreen …show more content…
– This usually happens when you finished the upgrade and when the computer restarted, only the blue screen will freeze with error code.
• Hardware Damage – This is usually when updating the O.S. (Operating System) when updated this could damage the hardware and then you’ll have to replace it.
• Slow Computer – If you updated a program because it said it was faster, that might not be the case as your computer might still be slower after the update.
• Loss of Data – When updating a software program from unreliable source, it might mean that it will delete some data which you cannot get back after.
In conclusion you really have to do a research about what program you are about to upgrade because it might mean that you need to upgrade the components inside your computer to fit the update. You also have to make sure that the program is from a reliable source if you’re downloading it from a website because you might have loads of viruses. When upgrading there always risk that happen so just be prepared if some of those risk will actually happen!

For the first Advantages and Disadvantages I’m going to talk about the OpenOffice 3.1 to OpenOffice 4.0
Advantages of upgrading are:
Functionality – The new OpenOffice 4.0 has a new automated framework to make your experience much better, the two frameworks that I found were BVT (Basic Verification Tests) and the PVT (Performance Verification Tests).
The program itself in previous version only supported a several of documents, now it supports more formats than Microsoft Office.
User Interface – As know before the OpenOffice has always been dull and many people didn’t download it because they thought it was just another cheap copy of Microsoft Office and that it was hard to use. Now with the update the program is so much easier to navigate through and find things within the program, which means people are now feeling more comfortable using the software.
Speed/Efficiency – Not much has been said in the report about the speed that it has, but previous versions have said to be freezing when saving or even exiting without letting the user know.
Disadvantages of upgrading are –
Cost – It’s not much as a disadvantage but as a positive as the price of the software doesn’t cost anything as it for FREE for anyone with Windows or IOS O.S.
Training- The training isn’t needed much, if people already had OpenOffice in previous version then they don’t need any training as it practically the same program but has some additional
features.
Reliability Issues – With this might be an issue as you never know when the program will fail on you, so just to make sure save your work every 10 minutes, just to be on a safe side.
Risk of new viruses – As OpenOffice is an open source, almost any website hacker can copy the same program but add some nasty viruses that might destroy your computer or they might be impossible to remove.
Now I’m going to talk about the Advantages and Disadvantages upgrading from AVG 2012 to 2013 Internet Security.
Advantages of Upgrading:
Efficient Malware Clean-up – This new 2013 upgrade has a better faster and efficient virus clean up, this program can spot out viruses and deletes them in the background whilst you browse the web. The program also check any downloading programs or files from the internet and rejects them if they might damage your computer.
Extra Features – The program does come a bit costly but it does have its free features to keep you save whilst browsing the web such as the tool bar to notify you if you are looking at a suspicious website and immediately send the report to the program to log it.
Disadvantages of upgrading:
Cost – The cost of the program is £29.99 which seems a fairly good price but users that have already used it say that it’s not worth the money as the program is hard to navigate through and has some bug issues to fix.
Rocky Start – The reviews suggest that is quiet tricky to install the product onto your computer. Some say that when they run a malware test their keyboard stops working and there’s no option but to turn off the computer completely and restart the whole process again.
Slow Computer – Some reviews say that the computer becomes very slow when you run a test, this is very bad when you want your computer to be fast and free of viruses.
