Buffalo And Coyote Summary
In the excerpt, I admire the value of compassion and mercifulness the Buffalo character posses, due to he gave Coyote another chance to live even though he could have annihilated him on the spot if he wanted to. Furthermore, being that Coyote helped Buffalo in getting revenge, Buffalo gave him an endless supply of food in return for the favor. This demonstrates Buffalo's compassion for others and his mercifulness, being that he shows his great appreciation to Coyote by giving him a generous gift, and letting him live. In addition, I admire the mercifulness he possesses, due to even though Coyote mocked him he still gave him an option to persuade him in allowing him to live. Altogether, I admire the value of compassion and mercifulness Buffalo

    Sophocles once stated, “Success is sweet, even if it comes from deception.” This truth is portrayed through three different short stories known as “How Stories Came to Earth”, “Coyote Steals Fire”, and “Master Cat: Puss in Boots”. In each of these three tales the main character spins webs of deceit by tricking people or, in some cases, animals into doing what they want them to. This includes Anansi’s act of tricking a snake into stretching himself out so Anansi could tie the snake to the stick in “How Stories Came to Earth.” Another form of deceit used, this time, in “Coyote Steals Fire” is when Coyote pretends to be dead in order to steal the fire from Thunder. In the story “Master Cat: Puss in Boots” Puss creates many empty threats to tell people so that they will lie for him. Each character obtains what he/she wishes to through a form of deception. While “How Stories Came to Earth”, “Coyote Steals Fire”, and “Master Cat: Puss in Boots” share similar tricksters who ultimately achieve their goals, they differ on the subject matters of their strategies, the benefits their tricks play on society, and the justification of their actions.…

    The author's Diction heightens the rancher's commitment to protect the people and the doubt he feels about the decision. Although the man's first “instinct” was not to kill the snake, he realized that it was his “duty” to kill it because of the “ominous” danger it posed to the ranch. The man's natural “instinct” and his moral “duty” to protect the ranch do not align, creating the conflict that the reader identifies with. The man recognizes the “ominous” danger posed by the snake, leaving him with an obligation to remove the danger. At first, the rancher's thought was to “let [the snake] go” for the rancher “never killed” an animal and not “obliged” to kill, but he “reflected” that it posed as a threat to the ranch, thus having to remove it.
