Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the nutritional value that bugs have and how they will be a good compliment to our everyday meals.
INTRODUCTION I. Attention Getter: Insects, yes those ones that run around that people are afraid ofOne would never imagine insects taking a large portion in our everyday meals, however, it is known they are a strong possible solution to consuming enough protein and fat content for human bodies. II. Relevance Statement: During my extensive research, Aaron Dossey had concluded that in the past 40 years, food reserves have hit their lowest point yet. III. Credibility Statement: As someone who does not eat the full amount of portions of protein and fat each day, I can personally see how this would balance out human’s diets. IV. Thesis Statement: Although many may …show more content…
feel as if adding insects will harm our bodies, it has been proven that insects carry more nutritional values than cattle and by adding insects to our everyday meals, it will help increase the amount of protein and fat contents we will be consuming each day.
Transition: First I will tell you about previous studies over the course of the last 40 years and how that has led to this conclusion today that insects are a good portion to add in our lives.
BODY I.
Human bodies consume many different proteins and fats in every meal they eat. A. The Scientist Magazine has stated that humans consume at least 40 percent of terrestrial productivity and that 30% of the land on earth is being used to feed and pasture livestock throughout the world. 1. Over the course of the last 40 years, the food reserves have been calculated to be the lowest they have ever been. 2. The United Nations has calculated that the population is expected to grow to more than 9 billion by the year of 2050, creating the demand for food to increase excessively, leading to more food having to be made and consumed. B. In the year, 2004, the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, also known as the FAO, has researched and been very intrigued by the idea of adding insects as a food source to consume enough protein that our bodies need to keep going. 1. There have been two international meetings that FAO has scheduled to discuss the negatives and positives about adding insects to meals and these meetings included industry representatives, researchers, and
practitioners. 2. According to The Scientist Magazine, there is a book known as the Forest Insects as Food: Humans Bite Back, that discusses the positive aspects of insects and what they have that we would benefit from. The government began to realize how much change the industry would have to make when changing many people’s diets to insect-based, but the overall outcome of these meetings concluded that insect-based diets will soon become an important part to our future and will soon be part of everyones everyday lives.
Transition: Now that I have told you a bit of the background as to where all of this research began, I will tell you about how changing to insect-based diets will actually make the environment more healthy. I. By consuming insects, we are intaking more nutrients than we are when we consume meats. A. According to The Scientist Magazine, insects contain the eight essential amino acids such as, riboflavin, vitamin B12, Vitamin A and several other minerals. 1. Many know that meats contain large quantity of grams of protein, insects have levels very similar to milk and beef. For example, take this into consideration; ground beef contains 26 grams of protein per 100 grams of meat and in the same ratio, house crickets contain 21 grams of protein per 100 grams of crickets. With this ratio, you can see how insects aren’t as bad as some people may think they are, as gross as that seems to picture.
