One aspect of the human condition in the story “Sucker” by Carson McCullers shows how treating people poorly has negative effects on everyone. One major way of treating people poorly is bullying. The web page “stopbullying.gov” tells what bullying is. “Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids `who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.”…
Starting in seventh grade Jamie Nabozny was bullied almost daily. He was hit punched, kicked, and called names. He told the principle who said he would get help, but nothing changed. By the end of seventh grade Jamie tried to commit suicide by swallowing pills. Jamie returned to middle school for eighth grade and was cornered in the bathroom on the first day back. His mother immediately demanded a meeting with the bullies and their mothers to try to settle the bullying. The principle blamed Jamie for being openly gay and said boys will be boys. None of the bullies were punished.…
The results of bullying can also support my opinion. Many things can result from being bullied. Some of these results include PTSD, depression, anxiety, along with physical problems caused by stress (sample 5). The most important negative result of bullying is that the victim could become another bully. This cycle never ends. Again this supports my opinion because it is an example of how the victim becomes conditioned by the environment he is placed in and becomes another…
Opposite to the previous statement, some consider that bullying might be a have a positive effect on an individual. As stated in the article “Why it's not always bad to be bullied: Learning to fight back helps children mature, says study,” psychologists believe that “standing up to bullies and classroom enemies can help children develop.” (Derbyshire). This text contains the message that it is important to stand up and fight, as it benefits the mental development of a…
Bullying happens when they are not around either of them people and also some kids are too scared to tell their parents because they don’t know how they will act nor do they know if they will stop getting bullied or if it would happen more. The victims of such actions need to understand that they can get out of that situation and also that they can sometimes do it by themselves because being bullied can mess a child up in the long run(Jacobs and McMahon np). The child can become antisocial or become very insecure about themselves, which no child deserves to go through all their lives. Not only do the people that get bullied become very distressed but also the people who witness the action happening can become very uncomfortable and stressed. This isn’t fair to the witnesses either because it can mess with their physical, mental, psychological and social well beings, along with the victim’s well being too. These problems with the victims and witnesses well beings can have a long term effect which isn’t good for either of them (Jacobs and McMahon np). Some of these situations lead to physical threats which are the one of the most common types of bullying. Also, most…
When viewers hear and see the word ‘bully,’ they are swarmed with emotions, because of experience as a bully or as a victim. Pathos is the clearest appeal in Hirsch’s film. The topic of bullying evokes so much emotion in an audience and Hirsch knew he could channel these emotions to create a passion to end bullying. Hirsch follows the lives and family of five victims, displaying the brutality inflicted upon the individuals and the agony and sorrow caused by the ruthless bullying. In many anecdotes, Hirsch reveals each victim’s story.…
Despite any way it may be viewed bullying only has negative effects and aftermath. There aren't any constructive or positive outcomes of bullying. Individuals involved in bullying have longterm complications throughout their lives. Both…
I enjoyed watching is as well as learning from it. I learned that by treating others poorly, you put yourself at risk for something unpleasant to happen to you as well. All of the things that happen to bullies in return could all be avoided if they would act like civil people. There is no need to be penurious toward somebody for no real reason, just to amuse yourself; there are so many better ways to spend your time than by bullying…
Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…
Bullying is something that affects kids and adults all throughout their lives. Bullying can have many mental effects, suicidal thoughts, and increased uses of substances. Bullying doesn’t only affect the kids who are getting tormented, the individuals who are imperious to others also have side effects as well. Overall, bullying is something that should never occur in today’s society and it is an abhorrent act.…
Before, in the 20th century, bullying was a regular thing in everyday life. In this time, no one paid attention to effect that bullying had on kids because no one at the time showed any serious reaction to bullying. In 1999, two seniors at Columbine High School killed a total of 13 people which brought attention to the world. With a link of aggression and bullying, this became more serious issue. Entering the new century, many of those who have had a personal connection with bullying or some one who has been bullied have been speaking out and against this issue while others stay silent against this cause. Those who advocate against bullying and those who stay silent, both participate in this way because of personal experiences and personal fears.…
I am sure that we can all, regretfully, think of an incident where you or someone you know have been bullied. Whether it was being called a derogatory name, being singled out because of your race, or even somebody saying something inappropriate about you on facebook. All of these examples are far too familiar in today’s society. So familiar, in fact, that statistics show that one out of every four teens face problems with bullying on a daily basis, whether it is mentally, verbally or physically (Fox,3). Bullying has not only ruined the lives of victims, but also ruined the lives of the bullies themselves. Many people do not understand the negative effects bullying has on oneself and/or their family until they are actually involved in a bullying situation. Bullying is a fact of modern society, however, knowing the psychological and even physical effects that bullying can cause, preventative measures should be taken by parents, teachers and school administrators to abolish bullying for good.…
There have been many efforts to help stop bullying. There are several websites to help children and teenagers become more aware of bullying and how to report it if they are being bullied or if someone else is being bullied. Just a few of the websites are http://americanspcc.org/, http://www.stopbullying.gov/, and http://stompoutbullying.com. There also several organizations to help with this epidemic. The National Center for Bullying Prevention and The Trevor Project are just a couple of the organizations that are dedicated to stopping…
Bullying is an awful “thing” that should not happen. There are kids all over the world that get bullied and have to live with it daily. It affects all types of people and is not prejudiced against race, gender or age. People take their own lives because of bullying and feel they have no one to to turn to. It’s pretty sad. If you do see bullying, please take a stand and stop it! We need to end bullying and make this world a happier place to live.…
Bullying is all around us. More needs to get done in our society but especially in our school systems. Too many people witnessed some form of bullying. Doing absolutely nothing about it,…
