Outcome 1: understand the employment rights and responsibilities of the employee and employer and their purpose. 1.1 The main purpose of a contract of employment is to have a breakdown of all main points in the job such as; job role, job title, working hours, salary, holiday, etc. The purpose of a contract is to ensure that the employee is aware of what is expected of them. See evidence page 1 for my contract. 1.2 The main points of legislation in a business environment are that the employee and the employers are aware if their rights and responsibilities, what the employee should expect from the company and vice versa. Anti discrimination and equality polices outline line rules and expectations of the company as a whole and also of national laws. 1.3 To find information on employment rights internally I would use the company’s intranet or use the staff handbook that I was given at the start of my contract. To find this information externally. I would use the intranet and websites such as Direct Gov. 1.4 Some companies use unions which stand for employment rights, an employee usually has to join the union and pay to be a member. Other companies that do not use unions provide their employees with websites such as the company intranet or the Citizen Advice Bureau. 1.5 The employer must treat the employee in a way in which follows both company and national equality and diversity policies. The employee must also follow these guidelines and treat others fairly and equally. 1.6 The importance of diversity and equality policies is very high and therefore must be followed correctly and if they are followed correctly then the company could benefit by getting a good reputation and high staff morale.
