In this paper I will be writing a brief summary of my understanding of a researched study on communication. The research documents will be retrieved from the UOP online library located in the major database specifically using ProQuest. After reading the studied research I will begin to discuss the business research and its purpose; the business problem’s under investigation, the data collection method, and the final conclusion resulted from the research.
The Business Research and its Purpose
The research conducted by Jan Hargrave focused on the importance of comprehending communication as a whole. Hargrave believes that non verbal communication has just as much a message as verbal communication stating “the entire body posture, gait, eye movement, gestures, feet, legs, torso, arms, hands, head, facial expression, and mannerisms needs to be analyzed to get the true meaning of a message”. The purpose of this study was to inform the reader on how actions really do speak louder than words. Hargrave gave a few examples to support her studies explaining the process of interrogation between a detective and criminal. It is enlightening to know that the purpose for a bright light in an interrogation room is so that detectives can clearly see the body language of the criminal. Through this method detectives are able to distinguish between the truth and lies.
The Business Problem under Investigation The problem under investigation is most people focus only on the verbal part of interaction not knowing that they’re not receiving the full meaning of the message being conveyed. Through her research Hargrave have found that “during a 30 minute meeting, about 800 different nonverbal messages are exchanged. These nonverbal messages are what Hargrave believes to be an individual’s true feelings and emotions. It is Jan Hargrave belief that one can obtain an endless amount of information from a person by simply observing their motions.
