The Spartan Phalanx is a powerful painting created by John Becker depicting the 2011 Michigan State football players as warriors and as Spartans. In its description, John Becker explains that he wanted to create a picture showing the Michigan State football players as a phalanx in Greek marching formation. Long ago, the Greeks used that attack formation to strike fear into their opponents and to show off their organization and stature. I think that Becker was able to create that image by contrasting the vibrant green to the bland white of their pants which in effect, showed off the players’ extensively built bodies and contributed to their formidability. Not only do the colors add to this menacing effect that Becker creates, but the Greek formation…

The primary focus of the tasks force groups is to pick a company where we would gather information about how they interpret organizational behavior throughout their work force atmosphere and to their employee’s. Many of us are focused with our companies with questions like “when would we be able to reach out to the company” and wondering what type of questions we would ask the employers and managers. What I came to realize is that with all the groups, we have already begun the process of how organization behavior works and what is necessary to obtain a healthy environment within a group of people.…
One of the key reasons for Listo Systems' early success and growth was the dedication and commitment of the employees. Employees worked hard to achieve the clear goals set by management. They were asked for their opinions regarding the direction in which Listo Systems was heading. Employees were engaged and felt empowered to make decisions regarding how and when the work got…

The Spartan Military was one of the most feared militaries of its time. Located in the southern region of the Peloponnesus, Sparta was centralized around military dominance. Beginning at a young age, Spartan boys were pushed both physically and mentally. Every day was a test. Lycurgus, a Spartan Tyrant, was revered as God with his reforms to transform Sparta into the ultimate weapon, militarization. The Spartan military was the most feared military in the world for their way of life, ruthless training, and strategic tactics.…
In any new organization, crucial qualities are trust, teamwork and friendship. Without these values an organization will not be able to function well and would be unable to accomplish any of it’s goals. This holds true, be it this generation, or any other previous generation. Likewise to survive in the new world, in the historical fiction novel, Blood on the River, written by Elisa Carbone. The prerequisites include credence, collaboration, and companionship.…
Leadership is defined as the process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a common goal. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and behavior. A leader has a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. In The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, (JROTC) the leaders teach us how to become better leaders. They also teach us to build character and leadership by providing guidance and putting us cadets in a position that we are not accustomed to. This helps us adapt to new types of things. We also have to set the example for the school, especially when we wear our uniforms. When we put on that uniform it means we are to be a leader. People watch us because we have the uniform on and they know we are a part of JROTC therefore they expect more out of us. A leader is someone who stands not only for their cause but takes responsibility and motivates other individuals also. There is a difference between being a boss and a leader. A leader is a motivation for others and inspires individuals to aim higher and attain that aim. However, a boss only supervises over his inferiors. Power naturally comes to a leader but power has to be earned by a boss. The best leaders are those who can lead and direct without misuse of their power. They must be able to inspire others in a direction or greater good. They must be strong enough to stand firm in decision making and leading others without a selfish attitude. In order to be a successful leader it is essential to have good character. You must have honesty, confidence, communication, and commitment. You have to have honesty because if someone is doing something wrong you need to be able to have honest feedback. You need communication because you need to be able to command your platoon. You need to have commitment because you need to stick with it and create a relationship with your platoon so you, and they, will feel more…

Being a member of the US military is considered one of the most, if not the most, patriotic titles a person can have in connection with this country. Serving in the military allows one to develop a sense of integrity and direction that reflects the American spirit. You, dear reader, may have family and/or friends who actively serve or have served as US military personnel. Maybe you are or have been an active member yourself. If so, your service is admired.…
“Together Everyone Achieves More… That’s what TEAM means, so let’s work it out together!” These were my words to my first successful venture into the network marketing and direct sales arena and although I did not have a clue about how I or my team would become a success in this business, we sat down in my overpriced apartment and decided that failure was no longer an option.…

To inspire Marines and co-workers into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things a leader must be, know, and, do. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through continual work and study. Good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their leadership skills; they are NOT resting on their laurels.…
This approach to leadership is quite interesting and has influenced me because in the latter part of my career in the Navy, I see this type of leadership style more and more. Many people may think of the military being as part of a big team; and they are correct in many cases, but there is a lot of individualism as well. It was not until technology and increased tracking of policies and programs that I started to notice and be a part of project management, task force, and improvement teams. This was not commonplace in probably the first half of my career. Northouse (2012) emphasized additional types; “Examples of such teams include project management teams, task forces, work units, standing committees, quality teams, and…
Due to its purpose, the military has always been known to produce quality leaders. From George Washington to John F. Kennedy, the list goes on and on. The military’s rich history has afforded scholars the opportunity to dissect how leadership is developed in the military. People can look to the military for guidance on effective leadership because officers “… are trained for high-stakes positions at a young age and are sometimes thrown into those roles with no warming.” (The Different Ways Military Experience Prepares Managers for Leadership, p. 82) According to Professor Michael Useem author of “Four Lessons in Adaptive Leadership,” leadership development is best derived from the military as the “environment creates a culture of readiness and commitment.” (p. 86) Professor Useem believes there is something to be learned from this world to apply in the corporate sector since corporations are facing more uncertainty and continuous new types of competitors. From this belief the author has reached a conclusion that adaptive leadership should be used utilizing four precepts; they are, “meeting the troops,” making decisions, focusing on a mission, and conveying strategic intent.…
