She works to synchronize the nursing staff with the core values, vision, and mission of our organization. I feel that a CNO should be concerned with making sure that nurses use best practice and evidence based practices when dealing with patient care. At our facility the CNO encourages nurses to perform research on evidence based practice measures. Such topics which have been studied and published include the ratio of patients to nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as well as nursing care for the critically ill child. In order to retain nursing staff as well as engage nurses to participate in evidence based research, our CNO has organized a points system where nurses are inclined to participate in committees, board meetings, and research projects. Our institution has earned magnet recognition three times consecutively. Magnet recognitions is the gold standard for nursing excellence and provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark for measuring quality of care.
